About the Workday Operations Platform Services Security Team
This team supports essential infrastructure and services related to account and credential management, authentication, access control, and participation in global security federations. The work is foundational to maintaining secure and efficient operations across Finance, HR, and Payroll, ensuring compliance with privacy and risk management standards. As a Security Specialist, you will bring a passion for operational excellence, customer service, and a desire to deepen your expertise in system security and access management.

Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary Focus Areas
• Manage intake and routing of security requests from multiple sources
• Research and respond to both technical and end-user inquiries
• Train and support student workers handling Tier 1 support
• Collaborate with analysts and engineers on security needs
• Help gather and clarify business requirements
• Test and validate new security changes
• Participate in Workday projects impacting features and business processes
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for security protocols
• Help define and track service metrics with the team and manager
Complexities of the Role
This position operates within a complex technical and organizational landscape, requiring collaboration across departments and adherence to evolving business and policy frameworks. Under the guidance of senior team members, you will:
• Navigate existing documentation and provide consistent technical advice
• Analyze and resolve operational and design issues
• Adapt to and advocate for new technologies
• Continuously evolve your practices to meet emerging needs and requirements

Duties & Responsibilities
(Time allocations are based on a full-time role)
Technical Support & End-User Consulting – 70%
• Collaborate with Workday security analysts and cross-functional technical teams to ensure appropriate data access
• Engage stakeholders across HCM, Benefits, Finance, and Payroll to align security with business needs
• Communicate security protocols clearly to users at all levels of technical expertise
• Monitor and analyze Workday sign-on and security activity logs
• Contribute to security testing and updates tied to Workday releases
• Assist with security role configuration and policy compliance
• Understand and document business processes and workflows for current and future-state systems
• Apply foundational access control concepts to real-world scenarios
Documentation, Training & Communication – 30%
• Maintain and improve internal security documentation and procedures
• Provide training and oversight for student workers supporting Tier 1 security operations
• Support training efforts by responding to inquiries and providing content for learning teams
• Assist in the communication of security updates and known issues
• Stay current with industry trends and standards (e.g., CIS, NIST, ISO)

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field—or equivalent experience
• At least 2 years of experience in enterprise IT support or help desk roles
• Strong skills in technical writing and maintaining customer-facing documentation
• Familiarity with identity and access management concepts and tools
• Experience providing technical support to diverse audiences
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and adherence to support procedures
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities

Desired Qualifications
• Experience in SaaS environments or systems security/access analysis
• Understanding of identity lifecycle concepts (registration, proofing, authentication, etc.)
• Familiarity with SSO and federation protocols such as SAML and OIDC
• Experience integrating IT systems with IAM services and APIs
• Knowledge of SOC 2 reports or auditing frameworks
• Exposure to project management tools like JIRA, Trello, or Asana
• Experience in higher education or research settings
