    Job Summary

    Student Counseling Services provide quality services to Southern Miss students by promoting sound mental health and the coping skills necessary for successful pursuit of their educational and life goals. This Assistant Director/Mental Health Counselor assists the director with leadership and administrative responsibilities of Student Counseling Services.

     

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Provide individual and group counseling, campus consultation services, emergency response, and educational and prevention services for enrolled students.

    + Provides direct services and supervision for staff regarding campus consultation and emergency response.

    + Assists the director in the areas of planning, implementing, supervising and evaluating counseling services at Hattiesburg and coastal campuses.

    + Oversees and manages the staff development and training of SCS staff.

    + Oversees and manages the education and outreach services of SCS, including the Counselor Liaison Program.

    + And other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master's level psychology, marriage and family, or social work degree; Licensed to provide mental health services in the state of Mississippi. At least two years’ experience working in the mental health field; Must have MS licensure to provide mental health services.

    + Demonstrates the ability to deliver accurate, concise and quality communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner and provide quality feedback

    + Resourceful and determined to provide a positive experience for others.

    + Ability to establish goals and objectives

    + Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others

    + Takes initiative to seek opportunities for development for both self and the team

    + Excellent organization and time management skills

    + Resourceful and determined to provide a positive experience for others.

    + Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to be compassionate and empathetic while working with everyone

    + Patience and determination.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Five years’ experience in the mental health field working with adolescents or college-aged individuals.
