    Job Description and Duties

    The Energy Commission seeks an Electric Generation System Program Specialist I position in the Hydrogen Refueling Infrastructure and Modeling Unit within the Fuels and Transportation Division. The incumbent will manage funding agreements and contracts, lead grant funding solicitations and contribute to the writing of the triennial Senate Bill 643 report, as described in more detail below. The incumbent may serve as a team lead in the development and deployment of alternative fuel vehicles and fueling infrastructure in California by performing complex technical and analytical tasks. The incumbent will work independently and participate in a team and use scientific principles to evaluate vehicle and infrastructure issues and assist private and public partners to introduce improved vehicles, engines, fueling stations, and other related infrastructure through joint funding of projects, technical assistance, and education and outreach activities. The primary responsibilities of this position are to identify, assess and prioritize innovative, cost-effective strategies that reduce toxic air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions to provide incentives for cost-effective approaches that achieve the goals of the Clean Transportation Program (CTP). The incumbent will establish working relationships with other government agencies and industry stakeholders to ensure that the Energy Commission and the CTP have access to current technology information, in order to recommend policy options to maintain and increase the development of incentive programs to meet the policies and regulations associated with alternative and renewable fuels and vehicle technologies.

     

    The incumbent will be a contributing author for the Senate Bill 643 report. This triennial report provides a comprehensive assessment of the state’s hydrogen infrastructure needs to support medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles and off-road applications.

    Working Conditions

     

    This position provides hybrid telework opportunities. Beginning July 1, 2025, employees may be required to work in-person four days per week under the Energy Commission's telework policy currently under development as required by Executive Order N-22-25 and current CalHR guidance. CEC will review requests for exemptions on a case-by-case basis, with consideration to operational needs and the benefits of in-person interaction. Teleworking is only available for employees who reside in California. You must be located in California and provide your in-state address prior to your start date. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. Occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division.

     

    New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
