    Advertising/Posting Title Complex Grant Proposal Developer

    Posting Summary

    With leadership from the UVM Director of Research Development and the Associate Dean for Research within the Larner College of Medicine ( LCOM ), this position will provide strategic planning and substantive grantsmanship and grant writing support, as well as supplement project management assistance for LCOM faculty seeking large, complex external funding opportunities, with an emphasis on federally sponsored research projects/grants. Key functions include: 1) participate in strategic planning for responses to large, complex funding opportunities, including interpretation of the funding opportunity announcement; 2) provide comprehensive grantsmanship review of multicomponent proposals; 3) assist faculty with timeline/deadline management in collaboration with the Research Development Project Manager; and 4) edit proposals for clarity and responsiveness prior to submission. This position reports to the UVM Research Development Team Lead for Complex Proposals and Strategic Positioning.

    Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

    + Bachelor’s degree in a relevant STEM or writing-focused discipline and five to six years of experience writing and editing scientific, technical, research proposals.

    + Ability to work flexibly, productively, and collegially with the writing of others.

    + Ability to organize, analyze, and interpret complex scientific, medical, or technical data, including ability to translate difficult technical information into language suitable for target audience(s).

    + Demonstrated knowledge of biomedical research sponsors, particularly NIH .

    + Demonstrated success managing complex or multiple projects within time constraints and coordinating teams.

    + Effective time and deadline management skills, with ability to prioritize responsibilities, attend to details, take initiative and work independently to carry out difficult assignments.

    + Ability to work professionally as part of a broader research development team that may include faculty, staff, and senior administrators.

    + Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

     

    Competitive candidates will have significant experience with National Institutes of Health grant mechanisms, familiarity with other sponsors that support biomedical research, and previous experience in the development, writing, and/or support of biomedical research proposals. This is an excellent career advancement opportunity for candidates with experience supporting single or multi-PI standard biomedical grant mechanisms ( NIH R or K mechanisms, or equivalent).

    Desirable Qualifications

    + Advanced degree in a relevant biomedical or STEM discipline.

    + Experience developing successful grant proposals to federal sponsors desirable, particularly NIH .

    + Experience navigating biomedical sponsor priorities and review processes.

    + Experience writing and editing materials in a wide range of disciplines.

    + Project management expertise or experience leading deadline-driven teams.

    + Ability to create figures and other graphical representations of data.

    + Ability to develop/interpret budgets for sponsored projects.

     

    Ability to adapt and respond quickly to time-sensitive proposal demands.

     

    Anticipated Pay Range $74,000 - $80,000
