    _What You will do:_

     

    The Associate Director of Safety and Maintenance supports the North American Logistics Operations (NALO) organization, reporting to the Associate Director of Engineering and Maintenance for NALO. The role supports internal US distribution centers located in Plainfield, IN and Enfield, CT. The position has ownership for investigations and deviations within the HSE and Maintenance space and manages the HSE and Maintenance positions at NALO. This position is responsible for serving as subject matter expert in one or more disciplines and providing technical and leadership guidance to the Safety and Maintenance team. To meet customer requirements, this position requires a general understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, distribution, warehousing, maintenance and industry HSE best practices.

    _Key Objectives/Deliverables_

    + Work in conjunction with the plant/site leadership to foster an independent safety culture aligned with Lilly’s HSE beliefs.

    + Directly manage Maintenance and Safety personnel, focusing on completing all maintenance and construction activities in a timely, compliant, and safe manner.

    + Develop, review and approve technical documentation such as sops, maintenance records, investigations, etc.

    + Assist Associate Director – Engineering and Maintenance in performance management cycle for direct employees; also assist in talent pipeline development across NALO

    + Ensure appropriate training curricula are maintained for HSE and Maintenance personnel and that personnel are appropriately trained to always perform job tasks.

    + Assist in establishing and maintaining systems to ensure the reliable operation, maintenance and qualified state of process and facility equipment.

    + Ownership of the NALO HSE Management System, including the management of regulatory agency inspections, reporting and record keeping requirements, emergency response planning, hazardous waste disposal, and environmental compliance

    + Partner with the NALO Engineering team to ensure compliance to HSE portions of new asset delivery and change management (Risk Assessments, FMEAs, Design Reviews)

    + Represent NALO in various Engineering Safety Committees across the organization, including the Machine Safety/Robotics Communities of Practice, HSE by Design Committees and others

    + Maintain NALO’s CHSEMP (Contractor Health Safety Environmental Management Program) program by managing contractor compliance

    + Participate in Lead Team Huddles as HSE Representative

    + Serve as Administrative backup to Associate Director of Engineering and Maintenance

    + Oversee permitting for Lilly and Contract Employees

    + Oversight of HSE and Ergo Local Capital budgets and capital planning

    + Serve as Site POC for HSE related government officials

    _How you will succeed:_

    + Establish and serve as the leader of the site HSE Lead Team, ensuring safety and environmental focus is incorporated throughout project delivery, startup and complete life cycle.

    + Assist in the oversight of maintenance activities, ensuring good documentation practices, ALCOA+ principles, and safe work practices are maintained.

    + Provide program ownership for the HSE Management System to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and Lilly Global standards for Health Safety and Environment.

    + Define the site HSE priorities & roadmap to develop and implement the systems and processes needed to run the site. This includes leveraging existing Lilly knowledge where necessary but also incorporating external experiences and learning.

    + Integrate functional Lead Team partners as required. Develop and manage the HSE business initiatives, HSE Plan and HSE metrics.

    + Ensure regulatory reporting requirements are continually met.

    + Have external focus, benchmark best practices across network and externally.

    + Escalate critical environmental, health and safety issues as appropriate to line management and corporate HSE management.

    + Partner with Global HSE as the Manufacturing safety aspect owner (SME) for material handling.

    + Drive safety improvements globally through standardization of equipment specifications and safe work practices associated with material handling activities.

    + Establish a strong external network with the aim of bringing warehouse/logistics safety innovation and technology in-house for safety risk reduction.

    + Analyze Lilly LIFE near miss and precursor data to identify, implement, and standardize warehouse/material handling engineering controls (or technology) that eliminate or reduce exposure across the logistics network.

    + Build technical relationships with the relevant corporate/global departments and sponsors strategic corporate initiatives at a site level.

    + Be a collaborative, inclusive, energetic leader and support the site’s lead team across all aspects of operational readiness.

    + Build the organization with the necessary capability, capacity and culture to operate this facility to the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.

    + Support project teams to deliver capital projects as a key stakeholder. Provide feedback and support on design decisions and startup plan impacting HSE aspects. Collaborate to ensure the right decisions are made to meet project deliverables and compliance requirements. Partner with Global Facilities Delivery (Lilly’s global capital delivery organization) on contractor safety.

    Requirements (Education, Experience, Training)

    + Bachelor’s degree required.

    + Experienced leadership of HSE programs and HSE management systems in a manufacturing setting.

    + Experience with implementing and managing environmental compliance programs in accordance with regulatory requirements.

    + Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies on environmental, health, and safety requirements

    + Must have a strong ability to form effective relationships at all levels. This candidate must be able to work closely with the Site Leadership team to ensure alignment with corporate objectives and internal decision-making processes and be able to connect and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization on site.

    + Should have experience developing and managing talented, engaged and high performing teams with a focus on building strong team cultures

    Additional Skills / Preferences

    + Highly organized, able to manage competing priorities, able to influence across multiple levels of an organization from site leadership to hourly team members.

    + Proven critical problem-solving skills, leadership skills, strong verbal and written communication skills.

    + Experience leading skilled maintenance and calibration technician personnel.

    + Demonstrated ability with computer systems and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerBi, PowerPoint).

    + Knowledge of cGMP, Trackwise (QMS), and GMARS (CMMS).

    + Experience with change management, deviation management, periodic reviews, routine data monitoring / reporting.

    + Root cause analysis and problem solving (CAPA).

    + Financial acumen and demonstrated experience in business case creation and analysis.

     

    Additional Information

    Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

     

    $114,000 - $167,200

     

    Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
