    Description of Work Unit

    The Division of Information Technology, the central IT organization for the Colorado State University System, supports the land-grant heritage of the institution as well as the university’s missions of teaching and learning, research, and service. The Division of IT is responsible for delivering enterprise and campus focused IT services for the Fort Collins, Pueblo and Spur campuses as well as throughout the CSU -System.

     

    Areas of responsibility include Application Development and User Support Services, Academic Technology, Cybersecurity & Privacy, Networking and Telecommunications, Infrastructure and Databases, Business Intelligence and Data Integrations, Administrative Applications, and Student Applications.

Reporting to the Vice President of Information Technology/ CIO , our dedicated team delivers dynamic and innovative solutions to meet the diverse needs of our students, faculty, and staff. Our work supports CSU’s Principles of Community as we help others discover and meet their potential while aiming to set the standard for IT throughout higher education.

    Position Summary

    The Software Accessibility Analyst provides oversight for the collection, management , and evaluation of Voluntary Product Accessibility Template ( VPAT ) and Higher Education Community Vendor Assessment Toolkit ( HECVAT ) materials provided by vendors. The person in this position will perform testing of software and applications for IT accessibility compliance and coordinate outsourcing of testing as appropriate/needed. This position is an essential component of Colorado State University’s mission to promote accessible learning and ensure compliance with state and federal IT accessibility laws and policies.

     

    This position requires an understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements for higher education, including the Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 ( WCAG ) The person in this position will partner extensively with units and individuals across the university.

     

    The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of universal design, guide faculty and staff on digital accessibility standards, understand IT accessibility best practices, and work collaboratively.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in educational technology, Instructional Design, Assistive Technology, or related field. Candidates with a High School Diploma (or GED ) and equivalent (4 years) related professional experience will be considered for employment (without the required bachelor’s education).

    + Demonstrates a strong understanding of universal design and ability to guide faculty and staff in meeting digital accessibility standards. Demonstrates knowledge of best practices for accessible documents, media, and other digital tools.

    + Demonstrates an understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements for higher education, including the Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 ( WCAG ).

    + Demonstrated understanding of VPATs (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) and how to interpret them.

    + Experience with assistive technology such as screen readers, magnifiers, or optical character recognition software.

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Experience conducting and assessing training sessions and workshops and/or teaching experience. Able to communicate and build positive relationships with all stakeholders including faculty, staff, and students.

    + Proven ability to successfully manage projects to completion.

    + Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Flexibility to accept, manage and incorporate change and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously and effectively in a fast-paced environment

    + Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently

    + Proven customer service skills, including the ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience

    + Ability to exercise sound judgement, tact, discretion, and integrity with sensitive and confidential information

    + Demonstrated experience with data analysis, assessment, and reporting

    + Experience with testing accessibility of software for a medium to large publicly-funded organization.

    Duty/Responsibility

    + Serve as subject matter expert on IT accessibility for University procurement, including reviewing VPATs and HECVATs from vendors.

    + Overseeing the accessibility review and tracking of VPATs and HECVATs for software supported under the Division of IT enterprise software licensing program.

    + Conduct hands-on evaluations of software, websites, and applications to ensure accessibility compliance.

    + Stay current on best practices and trends in IT accessibility and assistive technologies for higher education

    + Assist the the CSU Center for Accessible and Inclusive Learning Senior Director in ensuring campus adherence to the CSU Policy: Accessibility of Electronic Information and Technologies, and compliance with state and federal IT accessibility laws and policies

    + Provide accessibility consultation and reviews for software and hardware and websites to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards

    + Support implementation and management of Accessibility Enterprise Software tools

    + Collaborate with Procurement Services to identify third party vendors for accessibility services
