    Job Description:

    The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida invites applications for a position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2025. This is a nine-month, non-tenure-accruing position, to be renewed on a year-to-year basis, contingent on funding, for a maximum of two years. For full consideration, applications must be received by June 5, 2025. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Candidates should have demonstrated teaching experience and be committed to teaching excellence. The successful candidate will teach a combination of introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses, with an expected teaching load of two courses per semester. Experience with small telescopes is beneficial but not required.

     

    Candidates are also expected to be engaged in research as part of this appointment and should have an ongoing research program that can be continued at the University of Florida. The successful applicant will gain access to UF's world-class research facilities and telescopes (www.astro.ufl.edu/research/telescopes), including the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias in Spain, the Dharma survey telescope in Arizona, and the MINERVA Australis exoplanet RV array. The successful applicant is encouraged to participate in and contribute to UF’s newly founded Astraeus Space Institute, which supports space-based research across many disciplines. UF is home to HiPerGator, one of the most powerful high-performance computers at a US public university (https://www.rc.ufl.edu/about/hipergator/).

    Expected Salary:

    The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The compensation includes a full benefits package.

    Ph.D. degree in Astronomy or Astrophysics by the start date.
