    The 4-H & Family Living Coordinator delivers and manages programs for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Warren County in the areas of youth mental health first aid, parenting skills, cultural arts, and 4-H youth development (life skills, workforce preparation, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math, or “STEAM”) and other related grant programs as needed.

     

    This position also manages 4-H clubs, including providing guidance and oversight to 4-H volunteers.

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree. Associates degree plus 2 yrs. transferable program/functional experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree.

    + Experience relevant to the role of the position.

    + Ability to meet the occasional travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for Association insurance coverage are required.

    + Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate

    + Program Skills: Ability to effectively deliver, manage, and coordinate assigned programs. Ability to serve as an effective subject matter resource, assist with budgets, grants, and fundraising. Ability to recruit, engage, and motivate volunteers and program participants. Maintain confidentiality. Effectively participate in professional team efforts.

    + Communication & Marketing Skills: Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively market programs through social, print and other media, resulting in robust program participation.

    + Technology Skills: Ability to learn and effectively use software including use of the internet, program related software, and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel. Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies, including virtual programming.

    + Work Environment: In addition to the Working Conditions; the work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. In addition, the position regularly lifts, moves, or transports program related materials and equipment. The position occasionally works outdoors and in natural environment settings.

    + Experience in guiding and collaborating with volunteers.

    + Experience in program delivery both in person and virtual.

     

    Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

    Program Responsibilities:

    Program Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research – 50%

    + Deliver existing educational programs. Assist with other programs, events, and outreach as needed or assigned. May assist in teaching innovative educational programs.

    + Serve as subject matter resource; provide standard responses.

    + Participate as an active member of the 4-H team.

    + Foster acceptance of the program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.

    + Interact with program participants as part of program delivery.

    + Present as a positive role model for youth participants.

    + Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.

    + Participate in and attend trainings related to building youth competencies, building youth assets, and others as they relate to science-based and healthy lifestyles education.

    + Utilize a variety of proven educational methodologies, including new virtual programming initiatives.

    + Occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans as identified.

    + May assist in delivering innovative educational programs.

    + May assist in multidisciplinary or multi-association team efforts to deliver programs.

    + Implement program evaluation as designed.

    + Assist in making recommendations for improvements.

    Administrative Responsibilities:

    Direction and Management – 20%

    + Recruit volunteers and perform volunteer management procedures.

    + Provide guidance and oversight to volunteers.

    + Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts.

    + Assist supervisor in planning programs, meetings, fundraisers, fairs, events, and communication strategies.

    Coordination and Operation – 25%

    + Coordinate assigned programs, events, workshops, meetings, fundraisers, and fairs.

    + Coordinate all aspects of 4-H enrollment and data.

    + Maintain calendar of events.

    + Organize and maintain supplies.

    + Maintain a strong network of peers working in other community agencies and programs with the goal of connecting participant families with educational and other resources.

    + Draft standard communications and assist with websites and social media.

    + Maintain files and assist with records management.

    + Assist staff with program and administrative needs.

    + Perform financial duties - record cash receipts, make bank deposits, prepare expense reports, prepare vouchers. Assist with budgets.

    + Attend meetings as needed; take notes.

    + Assist with recruitment of program participants.

    + Assist with special projects and outreach efforts as needed.

    + Submit required documentation and reports in a timely manner.

    Professional Improvement – 5%

    + In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

    + Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

    Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

    + Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

    + Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

    + Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

    Policy – Applied to all duties and functions

    + Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Warren County policies, procedures and Cornell Cooperative Extension Skills for Success.

    + Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely and accurate manner.

    Position Details
