    EQUIPMENT CONSTRUCTION SPECIALIST (OPS)

    40 HOURS PER WEEK ($20.00 HOURLY)

    *This position is not eligible for teleworking. Candidate will be required to work out of an FWC Office located in Tallahassee *

    JOB DUTIES:

    This position operates heavy equipment for the repair, maintenance, and construction of boat access facilities; and uses a specialized skill set for the repairs, maintenance, and construction of boat access facilities for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

     

    Responsible for the inspection of boat access sites to assess repair and maintenance needs.

     

    Responsible for ensuring boat ramp assessment is entered into the Boat Ramp Maintenance Database (or other specified document or system) to assist with planning, scheduling, and obtaining equipment and materials needed for the repair and maintenance.

     

    Responsible for making routine repairs and maintaining boat ramps.

     

    Responsible for coordinating and assisting with major repairs, renovations, and construction of new boat access facilities.

     

    Responsible for operating and maintaining heavy equipment and other equipment necessary to repair, renovate and construct boat access facilities. This may include towing a 20-ft. cargo trailer or boat trailer as directed.

     

    Responsible for the inventory, assessment and routine repairs and maintenance of uniform waterway markers and compiling and entering data into the waterway marker database (or other specified document or system).

     

    Responsible for purchasing materials and supplies as needed and coordinating with supervisor for site inspections and work plan.

     

    Perform other related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    The building of boat ramps and boarding docks is specialized construction.

     

    General construction knowledge is helpful, but knowledge for building boat ramps includes knowledge of slope, angle, special technique for combining of two slopes and other specialist ramp techniques expressly related to the construction boat ramps and installation of docks and walkways that include, excavating, framing and pouring concrete on slopes and angles; installation of pre-stress slabs on slopes and angles, construction of docks or installation of docks; installation of pilings; framing and pouring sidewalks or access to docks; shoreline stabilization with rip-rap, rock, or other materials.

     

    The position will be required to operate heavy duty trucks and excavator equipment, obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), obtain and maintain the ability to operate a forklift; obtain and maintain a State of Florida driver’s license; and obtain safe operator status for operating a vessel.

     

    The position requires the ability to swim as some work is performed in water year-round .

     

    The position requires the ability to lift 60 pounds repetitively up to 300 times per day.

     

    The position requires Microsoft Office computer skills, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel in addition to Adobe Acrobat.

     

    Ability to work well independently to complete tasks.

     

    Ability to work with a partner.

     

    Ability to work in remote rural areas.
