Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
We are seeking an organized and collaborative Dayside Assignment Manager to oversee the daily operations of the assignment desk during peak news hours. This key leadership role manages scheduling for assignment editors, ensures effective coverage planning, and provides direct support to the Director of Domestic Newsgathering and Senior Assignment Manager. The ideal candidate will have strong editorial judgment, scheduling experience, and a calm, solutions-focused approach to fast-paced news environments.
Responsibilities
+ Oversee day-to-day operations of the assignment desk during peak daytime hours.
+ Manage scheduling for assignment editors and ensure desk coverage aligns with editorial priorities and staffing needs.
+ Support breaking news coverage by coordinating reporters, journalist, and crews in real-time.
+ Collaborate with the Director of Domestic Newsgathering and Senior Assignment Manager on editorial strategy and planning.
+ Facilitate clear communication between bureaus, field teams and digital platforms.
+ Monitor wires, internal communication, and editorial calendars to ensure comprehensive and timely coverage.
+ Step in to resolve logistical or editorial conflicts with a calm, solutions-oriented approach.
+ Maintain editorial consistency and ensure standards are upheld across all platforms.
Requirements
+ 5+ years of experience in a newsroom environment, with experience on an assignment desk or in news planning.
+ Strong editorial judgment and understanding of national news priorities.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, staffing logistics, and cross-platform coordination.
+ Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
+ Proven ability to lead during breaking news situations with a level-headed and collaborative approach.
+ Familiarity with newsroom systems, planning tools, and content management systems.
+ Availability to work weekdays with flexibility for early shifts, holidays, or occasional extended hours as news warrants.
+ Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualities
+ A strong understanding of U.S. politics and political coverage plans
+ Skilled in providing on-site support to news teams during high-stakes breaking stories and coordinated event coverage

Salary range: $115,000 - $125,000
