    Summary This position is located in the Facilities Management Electrical Unit of Engineering Services at VA Finger Lakes Healthcare System - Bath VA Medical Center in Bath, NY. The High Voltage Electrician Supervisor is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the complete electrical systems of the Medical Center. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: Applying the knowledge of all electrical wiring and equipment maintenance and make proper substitutions required to make electrical repairs of modifications Applying knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of both high voltage (4,160) and low voltage systems Planning and directing the Electric shop program by serving as a technical and administrative supervisor over the section exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations Supervising journeyman electricians, maintenance mechanics, electrical workers, maintenance workers in the electrical Unit Responsible for the proper functioning of the complete electrical system and response and responding when called (night or day) or without call, when trouble is anticipated Coordinating work with Electric Utility Companies and planning for emergency shutdowns when services are at a minimum use Supervising maintenance and repair of all medical enter elevators, including 18 passengers and one freight elevator Keeping abreast of new developments in the field and upgrades knowledge of modem hospital electrical systems Monitoring electrical circuits for overloads and making recommendations for corrections Performing other related duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 08:00 a.m. to 04:30 p.m. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 You may be required to serve a probationary period Pre-employment physical required Subject to background/security investigation Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP) Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The incumbent must be in good physical condition, capable of responding to emergency situations. The incumbent must be capable of accessing all equipment locations in the Medical Center and controls as needed, and be able to do any necessary bending, lifting, walking, climbing and other strenuous physical movements required by an electrician. The campus layout of this Medical Center requires walking considerable distances due to the proximity of buildings to the electrical shop. A portion of the Supervisor's work is performed in an office environment, however, when required to operate and/or perform repairs, the incumbent must be alert to the life-taking hazards of handling high and low voltages, use of highly combustible or explosive materials and gases, working in high temperature confined areas and the use of highly toxic agents. The incumbent may be exposed to dust, dirt, soot, and noise in the performance of duties Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. You will be rated on the following Job Elements as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Electrical Lead or Supervise Technical Practices Troubleshooting IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
