    Duties Description This position will be located at the Hinckley Reservoir Day Use AreaThe Assistant Chief Lifeguard shall perform the following:A. Be responsible for the performance of the lifeguards, the appearance of the beach, and the safety of the beach.B. Schedule the lifeguard staff to provide appropriate coverage during all operational hours, peak load periods and relief/break periods. The Assistant Chief Lifeguard shall assure that coverage is seamless, providing contingencies for sickness, emergencies, days-off, bad weather, in-service training, Emergency Action Plan (EAP) drills and other assigned duties.C. Be accountable for the condition and cleanliness of all beach and rescue equipment.D. Conduct weekly in-service training, EAP drills, and document this training on the proper form.E. Coordinate with the Facility Supervisor to develop and maintain an EAP for the facility.F. Make written reports to the Facility Supervisor including daily operations, training reports, rotation schedules, and incidents and accidents.G. Perform lifeguard duties whenever necessary.

     

    Minimum Qualifications Must meet all the qualification for a Lifeguard listed below AND must also have been a lifeguard for at least two years prior to appointment or have equivalent non-DEC practical experience. It is recommended that candidates have instructor ratings in First Aid, CPR, and Water Safety and/or Lifeguarding.-Minimum age is 15.-At the time of employment, all candidates must possess current certifications in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or the equivalent) and the American Red Cross Lifeguarding and Waterfront Skills Certification (or the equivalent). Candidates should also possess American Red Cross First Aid (or equivalent) if not included in lifeguard training course. All certifications must remain current through the entire operating season. Candidates may participate in the lifeguard qualifying procedure without the above certifications; however, they must be provided before employment begins.-DEC Lifeguards will be required to pass a NYS qualifying procedure before employment begins, list of qualifying procedure test dates and location are linked below.-Prior to start of employment, each candidate will be required to submit a current New York State Department of Environmental Conservation "Medical Standards for Lifeguards" form with a physician's certification that the candidate is physically capable of performing lifeguard duties.-As per the Agency standard, lifeguard candidates must meet the vision requirement of 20/70 uncorrected vision in both eyes and be correctable to the 20/40 standard.

     

    Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 9/3/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.Weekends and holidays may be required.
