General Statement
Gallatin College is seeking a qualified candidate for a non-tenure track optics teaching laboratory faculty to support the school’s Photonics and Laser Technology ( PLT ) program.
Duties and Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include:
+ Equipment qualifications, maintenance, and training,
+ Course instruction and mentoring to PLT students
+ Curriculum development and optimization targeted to optical metrology techniques
+ General support of Gallatin College’s PLT program.
The position will also include support of MSU’s electrical & computer engineering undergraduate courses utilizing the facility for laboratory activities.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ Master’s degree in the areas of optical sciences or electrical engineering
+ Working knowledge of common laboratory instrumentation including spectrum analyzers, waveform generators, and oscilloscopes.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ Extensive experience in optical metrology tools and techniques including the use of interferometers, MTF measurement tools, and monochromators
+ Demonstrated history of developing operating procedures for optical equipment.
+ Working knowledge of common laboratory instrumentation including spectrum analyzers, waveform generators, and oscilloscopes is required.
+ A Ph.D. degree in optical sciences or electrical engineering is highly recommended.
The Successful Candidate Will
The successful candidate will be able to manage the optics lab, develop curriculum, manage a classroom, and mentor students. This individual will be able to teach students in a laboratory setting while helping them learn specialized equipment, and will have the ability to collaborate across organizations including the College of Engineering, regional industry partners, and AmeriCOM representatives.
