JOB SUMMARY
The Department of Public Works (DPW) Golf Cart Maintenance Specialist performs mechanical repairs on the rented golf cart fleet, assists with supervising the DPW Golf Cart Service Volunteers when necessary, provides daily service to golf carts when needed, and provides hospitable, service-oriented support to all Golf Cart users. This role is primarily based in the Golf Cart Shop onsite. They will also work remotely within the event site when called for mobile repairs, breakdowns or maintenance during the event, and will assist with Golf Cart shop build pre-event and clean-up/returns post-event.
This temporary, ineligible for benefits role is:
+ From August - September : Full-Time , Non-Exempt , based in Black Rock City, Nevada .

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Daily Operations (80%):
+ Assist with Golf Cart Shop build pre-event.
+ Report any misuse or damage of the golf carts to the Golf Cart Manager.
+ Safely equip all golf carts with adequate lighting and other required equipment.
+ Provide friendly service to the users of the golf carts.
+ Oversee the golf cart support specialists' mechanical work, being available for assistance or answering questions.
+ Provide daily mechanical repair service to golf carts that are broken down.
+ Provide “after hours” urgent repair services while on shift as part of the on-call tech team.
+ Ensure the Golf Cart Shop is locked and tidied after any after hours shifts.
+ Assist the service crew volunteers in times of need. (Lunch breaks, service overflow, etc…)
+ Remove all added equipment from carts, detail and prepare for return to the vendor.
+ Track all golf carts and ensure all are returned to the vendor in the same condition we received them.
+ Assist with Golf Cart returns and clean up in Reno post-event.
Leadership (15%)
+ Act as a helpful and transparent intermediary for involved departments, managers, agencies, and vendors.
+ Reasonably, and creatively assist staff and vendors with problem-solving efforts and alternate solutions.
+ Work with the Golf Carts Manager to actively participate in the correct allocation of resources and assist Burning Man departments to stay within budget and on time.
+ Commit to improving and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for assigned projects throughout the season for accuracy.
+ Effectively manages own time, individuals, and the efforts of the team as a whole to create an environment of accountability, collaboration, and flexibility of focus in the crew.
+ Be prepared to operate effectively, safely and sober at all times to support the top priority tasks during working hours.
+ Prepare written feedback for the Golf Carts Manager describing the successes of the season, areas in need of improvement and suggestions with the purpose of improved overall efficiency for the next year; Submit an end-of-season EMBER Report.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%)
+ Attend and support department Morning Meetings.
+ Work with the Business Operations Teams to plan and execute LNT and Waste stream plans.
+ Be familiar with, understand and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies, protocols and behavioral standards.
+ Participate in specified projects and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

+ Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
+ Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
+ Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
+ Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
+ Mentoring - Mentors subordinates in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and experience that will allow them to advance in the organization. Aids, encourages, and inspires their team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
+ Able to safely lift up to 60 lbs. of fuel cans, related supplies, crates and equipment.
+ Able to stand, kneel, bend and squat for extended periods of time.
+ Extensive knowledge of small engine repair and maintenance.
+ Clear, service-oriented and professional communication, verbally and through written correspondence.
+ Experienced with using 2 way radios and following radio protocol.
+ Able to embody proactive, present and responsive leadership qualities for a diverse team while still maintaining firm boundaries and adhering to set standards.
+ Operates with behavioral integrity and discretion of sensitive or important information; maintains organization and tidiness in work ethics and the work environment.
+ Able to receive and integrate feedback into action, remain calm and focused under pressure and emergency situations, and maintain a professional demeanor that leads by example.
+ Capacity to identify tasks and initiate execution with minimal direction.
+ Ability to respond appropriately to quickly remediate any possible chemical spills.
+ Capable of working in an extreme environment including drastic temperature changes, high winds, poor air quality and low to no visibility at times.
+ Ability to temporarily relocate for work at the Burning Man event held in Gerlach, Nevada
Preferred
+ Prior experience attending Burning Man and/or familiarity with its culture is highly beneficial.
+ Familiarity with the Department of Public Works (DPW) and its role in supporting the event.
+ Working mechanical knowledge of small engines that can be utilized in field based operations with creative problem solving abilities.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
+ Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
COMPENSATION
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated rate for this position:
+ From August - September is $15.75 - $18.25 per hour .
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
+ Off-playa: Work is primarily standing and bending while cleaning and restoring Golf Carts to original status. This happens in Reno and away from the extremes of the playa.
+ On-playa: This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
