Job Title: Ground Worker Apprentice
Job Description
The apprentice supports the installation and maintenance of underground facilities. Working closely with crew members, ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Key responsibilities include digging trenches, laying conduit, pulling cables, and assisting with job site setup and breakdown. Operate tools, handle materials, and maintain clean work areas. This role requires physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, eager to learn, and able to follow instructions. While prior experience is a plus, on-the-job training will be provided.
Responsibilities
+ Assist with underground facilities installation and maintenance.
+ Dig trenches for conduit and cable installation.
+ Lay conduit, pull cables, and support electrical assembly.
+ Operate hand and power tools safely.
+ Help set up and maintain job sites.
+ Ensure safety compliance.
+ Load and unload materials and equipment.
+ Maintain a clean work environment.
Essential Skills
+ Mechanical aptitude
+ Utility construction experience
+ Ability to operate skid steer
+ Experience with dirt work
+ Experience with underground utilities
+ Experience with underground conduit and cable
+ 1+ year physical outdoor labor experience
+ Ability to dig with a spade or shovel for 8 hours/day
+ Valid driver's license

+ Ability to lift heavy materials and perform manual labor.
+ Basic safety knowledge and adherence.
+ Willingness to work outdoors in various weather.
+ Strong work ethic and reliability.
+ Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.

Work Environment
The work environment is primarily outdoors, often in challenging weather conditions. Expect exposure to construction sites with varying levels of noise, dust, and heavy equipment operation. Frequent interaction with crew members, subcontractors, and other site personnel is required.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Des Moines, Iowa.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
