    A Day in the Life

     

    The person in this role will follow a hybrid work schedule and be based out of the Rice Creek West facility located in Fridley, Minnesota.

     

    The IT Operations Innovation group is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Software DevOps Engineer for the Analytics Imaging Program. In this role, you will focus on containerization technologies, orchestration platforms, and GPU-based computing environments. As part of the IT infrastructure team, you will provide essential support for the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of containerized applications, orchestrators such as Kubernetes, and GPU-based solutions in both cloud and on-premise environments. Your role will be integral to ensure seamless application performance, troubleshooting, and IT systems enhancements critical to business operations. This role is ideal for an experienced DevOps professional with a passion for cutting-edge technologies in containerization, orchestration, and GPU-based infrastructure.

    CAREERS THAT CHANGE LIVES

    + Introduces and maintains processes, tools, and methodologies to balance needs throughout the software development life cycle.

    + Conducts requirement gathering and analysis to understand the domain of the software problem and/or functionality, the interfaces between hardware and software, and the overall software characteristics.

    + Applies knowledge of software development best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, and testing.

    + Engages with Systems teams on development, testing, and deployment technologies for developing automated CI/CD pipelines.

    + Responds to scope changes and codes software enhancements, including cloud-based or internet-related tools.

    CONTAINERIZATION & VIRTUALIZATION

    + Support the design, deployment, and management of containerized environments and exposure to containerization technologies like Docker and Podman.

    + Build, maintain, and troubleshoot containerized applications and services to ensure optimal performance and availability.

    + Configure, manage, and automate containerized workloads in production environments.

    CONTAINER ORCHESTRATION

    + Administer and support container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, or OpenShift.

    + Configure, deploy, and maintain Kubernetes clusters for efficient container management and scaling.

    + Monitor containerized applications and services for performance, availability, and scalability, addressing issues promptly.

    GPU & HARDWARE ACCELERATION

    + Provide support for GPU-powered applications, including those leveraging CUDA, TensorFlow, and other GPU-accelerated frameworks.

    + Assist in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of GPU hardware and associated drivers in virtualized environments.

    + Support AI/ML workloads and high-performance computing (HPC) solutions that require GPU utilization, ensuring efficient resource allocation.

    AUTOMATION & SCRIPTING

    + Automate tasks related to container deployment, configuration, and scaling using tools such as Helm, Ansible, or Terraform.

    + Write and maintain scripts (Bash, Python, etc.) to enhance container lifecycle management and orchestration.

    + Support continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and workflows for containerized applications.

    PERFORMANCE MONITORING & TROUBLESHOOTING

    + Monitor containerized services and infrastructure for performance issues, using monitoring tools like Dynatrace, Solarwinds Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.

    + Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to containers, orchestration, and GPU performance, providing solutions for optimal system health.

    + Investigate and resolve performance bottlenecks in GPU-accelerated applications.

    SECURITY & COMPLIANCE

    + Implement security best practices for containerized applications, including vulnerability scanning, access controls, and encryption.

    + Ensure compliance with organizational security policies for container-based applications, infrastructure, and GPU systems.

    DOCUMENTATION & SUPPORT

    + Document container setups, Kubernetes configurations, orchestration workflows, and GPU configurations.

    + Provide training and technical support to internal teams on containerization, orchestration platforms, and GPU-based systems.

    + Act as a key point of contact for support issues related to containers, orchestration, and GPU environments.

    **MUST HAVE** (Minimum Qualifications)

    + Bachelor’s degree

    + 7+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree

    **NICE TO HAVE** (Preferred Qualifications)

    + Strongly Preferred:

    + Previous Medtronic experience

    + Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical discipline

    + 5+ years of IT support of system administration experience with a primary focus on containers and orchestration

    + Prior experience with containerization technologies in production environments

    + Familiarity with GPU-accelerated computing and deploying AI/ML workloads

    TECHINCAL SKILLS

    + Strong experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Docker Swarm.

    + Proficiency in Linux/Unix administration, particularly in managing containerized environments.

    + Experience with GPU technologies (e.g., NVIDIA GPUs, CUDA, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and working knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure.

    + Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and deploying containers in cloud environments.

    + Experience with configuration management and automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Helm.

    + Knowledge of networking concepts (e.g., Docker networking, Kubernetes networking, ingress/egress, load balancing).

    + Experience in multiple types of testing including unit, functional, performance, load, end-to-end, and test-driven-development in a microservice based Kubernetes environment.

    + Experience in high availability design and deployment supporting hybrid (edge, cloud, core) hyperconvergence manufacturing operations.

    + Observability of the systems (performance monitoring, telemetry)

    METHODOLOGIES & PRACTICES

    + Competency in Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.

    + Familiarity with Lean Product Development principles and practices.

    + Experience working in DevOps-driven environments with CI/CD pipelines.

    + Strong understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and iterative design.

    SOFT SKILLS

    + Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills to troubleshoot container and GPU-related issues.

    + Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide clear support documentation.

    + Proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential system performance issues or improvements.

    + Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)

    + Docker Certified Associate (DCA)

    Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$155,200.00 - $232,800.00

     

    This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

     

    The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

     

    The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
