    The Outdoor Recreation and Lands Branch (RLAD) of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is responsible for providing and/or overseeing the delivery of recreational programs and services statewide, and to manage land use through real estate acquisition and conservation internally and with partnering landowners.

    Description of Job

    The purpose of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Philanthropy program is to help strengthen relationships with the community and build a broad-based donation program by connecting people to the agency’s mission to protect Colorado's wildlife and natural resources, providing a quality state park system, and offering exceptional and sustainable outdoors recreation opportunities with the goal of fostering education and stewardship of these resources. As part of CPW’s Strategic Priorities, the agency is focused on sustainable funding to provide for the natural resources and recreational opportunities that CPW offers. The Philanthropy program will broaden the avenues through which people can contribute to the work of CPW, advance and cultivate new and existing donors through meaningful relationships and personal connection to programmatic investments, and develop new channels for sustainable funding. This program will support the agency’s priorities of increasing trust and awareness of the agency and its work, while building connections to the outdoors.

    Specific job duties include but are not limited to:

    Philanthropy Program Development and Management & Program, Web page and Database Operations

    Responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of a robust philanthropy program within Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). The role assesses, grows, and diversifies funding opportunities to support CPW’s mission and manages multiple, multi-faceted fundraising initiatives in collaboration with CPW leadership, the Commission, Branches, Regions, and key stakeholders. It develops strategic short- and long-term goals, maintains and expands donor relationships, and fosters donor involvement in advancing CPW’s work to promote and protect Colorado’s wildlife and natural resources. Builds and strengthens collaborative relationships with prospective donors interested in conservation, wildlife management, and outdoor recreation programs. It oversees the distribution of donor funds through the annual Philanthropy at Work program, including application review, fund distribution, and reporting. Works closely with Financial Services to track donations, reconcile financial data, manage legacy giving, and ensure accurate financial records. It coordinates with the Executive Management and Communications teams to create authentic engagement opportunities for current and potential philanthropic supporters and attends relevant conferences and events. The role also cultivates partnerships with funders and staff by co-presenting at events, co-authoring publications, and organizing engagement activities with employees and stakeholders. Additionally, the position supports the creation of a Legacy Donor Program, including estate negotiations in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office and other agency partners, and pursues strategies to simplify, connect, and streamline funding opportunities aligned with CPW’s mission.

    Donor Relations

    This position designs, documents, and implements a systematic and integrated donor relations and recognition program for Colorado Parks and Wildlife. It establishes and manages tracking processes to ensure timely acknowledgement, recognition, ongoing communication, and continued cultivation of past and current donors, with the goal of enhancing their long-term relationship with the agency. The role collaborates closely with teams across CPW to serve as a key liaison to current and potential major donors, working with CPW Leadership, Commissioners, and other agency leaders to identify strategic opportunities for donor cultivation, stewardship, and public engagement. It also maintains consistent communication between donors and staff to foster collaboration, professionalism, and alignment with the overall goals of the Philanthropy Program.

    Eight (8) years of relevant experience in Philanthropy or Fundraising efforts, Public Administration or occupation related to the work assigned to this position

    OR

    A combination of related education in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Environmental Science, Outdoor Recreation, Public Administration, Communications Business, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to Eight (8) years

     

    Substitutions

     

    + Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

    Conditions of Employment
