Job Description

The Unit Supervisor oversees and administers Fayette Historic State Park, Snail Shell Harbor, rustic state campgrounds,

boating access sites, non-motorized pathways, and ORV trailheads. Also included is the joint operation of the visitor center

with Michigan History Center. This position has personnel responsibilities for lead ranger, ranger E’s, and SPW 04

positions. The purpose of this position is to provide high quality recreational opportunities to the public, while preserving

and balancing the protection of the natural resources. This position performs scheduled and unscheduled inspections of

the Unit, checking quality and quantity of work. Competency in leadership skills, safety and maintenance, public relations

and financial management is required. This position will regard safety as a personal responsibility and respect the safety of

other employees and the public. This work is performed with minimal, long-range direction by the District Supervisor. This

position represents the Division with the legislative, local governmental units and business groups in relation to the

administration of State Lands and facilities under his/her jurisdiction.

Additional Requirements and Information

Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license.

Some positions may require certification by the Department of Natural Resources’ Park and Recreation Enforcement Commission. Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.

Vacation and Sick Leave:Eligible full-time employees receive between15 and 35 personal daysand 13 sick daysper year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
