Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Electrical Controls Engineer is to develop, implement, and support technology to improve equipment, processes, and products. This is accomplished by design requirements, specifications, drawings, procure necessary materials and services, coordinate installation and training for systems including new automation solutions. Will provide expertise in programming and designing PLC controls and interfaces for new equipment and processes. Effectively communicate with team members at all levels of the organization to improve our workplace and customer experience.
This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and will be based out of our Anoka, MN office.
What you’ll do:
+ Develop or support of project details for new equipment, major repairs, and machinery upgrades.
+ Design, implement, maintain, and improve electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, and systems for the manufacturing plant.
+ Direct and help coordinate construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, and codes.
+ Oversee electrical project efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget.
+ Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
+ Confer with engineers, management, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects to develop and trial proof of concept applications.
+ Plan and implement research methodology and procedures to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects.
+ Work on strategic technologies that are scalable and can be implemented at multiple facilities.
+ Supervise and train electrical team members as necessary.
Experience you bring:
+ Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, or Associates degree in a related field of study with at least 4 years’ experience under the direction of an Electrical Engineer.
+ Five or more years’ experience in developing and supporting custom manufacturing solutions using Allen Bradley programming software, as well as being familiar with others including Omron and common industry platforms.
+ Experience with data transfer between machine control systems and IT databases.
+ Proficient in standard engineering design and office software (AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
+ Experienced in designing new electrical systems used in an industrial facility including NEC and OSHA standards.
+ Ability to analyze and correct complex problems and deal with a variety of variables. Ability to create instructions and convey ideas to others through the use of drawings, sketches, orally, and written proposals.
+ Familiar with mechanical principles and how they interact with electrical control systems.
+ Skilled in the use of HMI devices and creating interfaces between the control system of equipment and the employees that will interact with it.
+ Possess the understanding of typical methods used to control manufacturing equipment and be able to apply these principles.
You might have:
+ Experience with servo, robotics, SCADA, lasers, camera and vision systems along with and other developed technologies.
+ Hazard analysis, FMEA, machine guarding risk analysis.
+ Familiar with version control software.
Work Environment:
Employee work assignments may include tasks working with and/or exposure to potentially hazardous areas, including flammables and explosives. Safety training is provided to all employees to ensure compliance with company and federal regulations.
Pay Range:
$75,800.00 - $106,000.00
The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
