    Job Summary

    An exceptional opportunity awaits a dynamic and experienced Community Engagement Manager to join the onWHARD (Women's Health And Reproductive Disparities Collaborative) team within the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. This role involves leading and advancing our community engagement initiatives across multiple ongoing and future projects.

     

    The Community Engagement Manager will be a key partner in the onWHARD team, working closely with faculty and staff, especially on Dr. Marsh's community-focused projects. This position is responsible for overseeing community outreach efforts, building and nurturing stakeholder relationships, and developing impactful engagement strategies to promote women's health, address societal stressors, and advocate for health equity.

     

    With strong leadership, strategic planning, and communication skills, the Community Engagement Manager will drive collaborative efforts with community partners, particularly in Michigan's urban and rural areas, to enhance outreach activities and programs. This role requires expertise in navigating community networks, representing onWHARD at various events, and fostering a culture of collaboration.

     

    Candidates should possess a deep understanding and experience in women's health advocacy, research engagement and dissemination, event management in communities, and community-driven initiatives. Demonstrated success in building effective partnerships and a passion for improving health outcomes for minority and underrepresented populations are highly desired.

     

    By bringing their expertise and vision, the Community Engagement Manager will play a crucial role in empowering the onWHARD team to achieve its mission of advancing women's health through strategic community engagement.

    Responsibilities*

    Leadership & Management

    + Lead the strategic development of community engagement initiatives to promote women's health awareness and our practice's services.

    + Manage and mentor a team focused on building community relationships and expanding outreach efforts across Michigan.

    + Develop systems and processes to monitor and report on the effectiveness of community engagements and partnerships.

    Community Engagement & Partnership Development

    + Cultivate and sustain partnerships with local organizations, schools, businesses, and community leaders, especially in Detroit, Flint, Ypsilanti, and other key areas of both urban and rural Michigan.

    + Serve as the key representative and liaison for community partners, ensuring meaningful and productive collaborations.

    + Identify and execute opportunities for stakeholder engagement, particularly in rural Michigan communities, through events such as workshops and seminars.

    Educational Advocacy & Resource Development

    + Lead the creation of educational content and resources to advocate for women's health and reduce stigma.

    + Partner with team members to design and facilitate workshops and presentations focused on women's health education.

    Event Strategy & Execution

    + Oversee the planning, organization, and delivery of community-focused events, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

    + Direct the logistics of events including scheduling, material production, staffing, and post-event evaluations.

    Administrative Oversight

    + Maintain comprehensive records of partnerships, programs, and events; provide regular reports to leadership on outcomes.

    + Identify and pursue grant and funding opportunities to enhance community engagement programs.

    Required Qualifications*

    + **Education:** Masters degree preferred with at least 5-8 years of experience in community engaged role; or Bachelor's degree with 10-12 years' experience in marketing, communications, social work, psychology, or a related field.

    + **Experience:** Minimum of five years of experience in community engagement, relationship management, or a related field. Proven leadership experience in building coalitions and initiatives in women's health, research, or social advocacy is required.

    + **Community Knowledge:** Strong familiarity with Detroit, Flint, Ypsilanti, and other Michigan communities. Established connections for stakeholder engagement in these and rural Michigan areas is desirable.

    + **Technical Skills:** Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, Dropbox and other database applications; and expertise in social media management, data analysis, and use of graphic design tools like Canva.

    + **Personal Skills:** Exemplary communication, interpersonal, and project management skills; demonstrated ability to lead teams and projects.

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.     Additional Information

     

    This is a one-year term-limited appointment with the possibility of an extension based on funding availability. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

     

    Additional Information

    Work Expectations:

    + Regular presence in the office and at program coordination meetings is required.

    + Involves work during non-business hours and on weekends; regular regional travel to partner sites is expected, with mileage reimbursement.

    + Position requires on-site work due to collaborative nature, frequently at partner locations across Michigan.

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
