In this position...
Your lines of code & models will make our future more sustainable. As a Cell Modeling engineer you will develop, modify, and correlate electrochemical/physics-based models for current and future cells. Your optimization will fight physics to find the most desirable outcome for the vehicle and our customers. You will work closely with the cell/battery engineering & manufacturing teams to identify gains in performance and aging and model/predict and test them.
What you'll do...
• Create and improve battery models for aging and performance- Physics based models, Empirical/semi empirical models, Physics aware machine learning models
• Connect the cell level models with the battery system models
• Support battery management system to develop on board battery algorithms such as SOC/SOH estimation
• Develop data analysis tools for analyzing battery data from cell/pack level characterization tests and vehicle field tests.
• Develop efficient Design of Experiments to get appropriate data from characterization tests with minimum resources.
• Run sensitivity analyses to understand the design space and tradeoffs
• Assess cell manufacturing roadmaps from suppliers and future cells for improved performance and cost
• Correlation and model improvements with on-road battery usage data
• Lead and contribute to design reviews, test plans, and requirements reviews to further optimize cell efficiency and performance
• Enable effective communications with subsystems and other engineering teams to deliver optimal design solutions
• Support presentations of concepts and status to senior management and internally to Company personnel in an integration and subject matter expert role
You'll have...
Masters in Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience of developing cell electrochemical, physics-based models or aging models and an understanding of how that relates to vehicle performance
• High proficiency in any of COMSOL/Python/Matlab/Simulink
• Experience with LFP and NMC chemistrie
Even better, you may have...
• PhD Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
• Experience with porous electrode modeling (P2D) and DCFC profile development is a plus
• Experience with battery life modeling, understanding of various degradation modes is a plus
• Experience with multiple cell chemistries including LMFP, Si anodes
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Confluence, and Jira applications
• Experience with analysing cell/battery test data
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team
• A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement
