About Team
Marketplace Engineering team is at the forefront of building core platforms
and services to enable Walmart to deliver vast selection at competitive
prices and with best-in-class customer experience by enabling third-party
sellers to the marketplace platform, sell and manage their products to our
customers on walmart.com. We do this by managing the entire seller
lifecycle, monitoring customer experience, and deliver high- value insights
to our sellers to help them plan their assortment, price, inventory. The team
also actively collaborates with partner platform teams to ensure we
continue to deliver the best experience to our sellers and our customers.
What you’ll do
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will:
Lead & Develop Your Team
•Manage and mentor a high-performing engineering team, fostering
career growth, technical excellence, and collaboration.
•Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and skill-
development planning.
Drive Strategic Delivery
•Own the planning and execution of key platform and product
initiatives, balancing scope, quality, timelines, and resources.
•Partner with Product, Design, and Data to translate business priorities
into clear roadmaps and deliverables.
Ensure Operational Health
•Define and track team KPIs (velocity, quality, uptime, SLIs/SLOs);
surface risks early and drive remediation.
•Oversee incident response and post-mortem processes, embedding
continuous improvements into engineering practices.
Champion Engineering Best Practices
•Advocate for robust software architecture, coding standards, and
automated CI/CD pipelines.
•Promote a culture of code reviews, test automation, and shared
ownership of technical debt.
•Lead design reviews to ensure scalable, maintainable solutions and
provide occasional code reviews to uphold code quality.
Collaborate Across Functions
•Act as a bridge between engineering, security, compliance, and
business stakeholders, aligning on priorities and resolving cross-team
dependencies.
•Represent the engineering organization in leadership forums,
articulating progress, challenges, and resource needs.
What you’ll bring
•Proven Leadership: 7+ years managing software engineering teams,
with demonstrated success scaling teams and delivering complex
systems.
•Technical Acumen: Strong background in backend architecture,
microservices, and event-driven platforms, with the credibility to
guide design discussions.
•Strategic Orientation: Experience translating product vision into
multi-quarter plans, prioritizing work to maximize impact and ROI.
•Operational Excellence: Track record defining SLIs/SLOs, leading
incident management, and driving continuous improvement in
reliability and performance.
•People-First Mindset: Exceptional coaching skills—able to recruit,
retain, and develop diverse technical talent while fostering an
inclusive environment.
•Cross-Functional Collaboration: Skilled at influencing peers in
Product, Design, and Security to accelerate delivery and align on
shared objectives.
•Effective Communicator: Comfortable presenting technical status
and trade-offs to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
Additional Qualifications:
•Agile & DevOps Expertise: Hands-on experience implementing agile
methodologies and DevOps practices at scale.
•Scaling Distributed Systems: Background in operating services at
high throughput with multi-region deployments.
•Security & Compliance Awareness: Familiarity with enterprise
security standards and regulatory requirements (PCI, GDPR, HIPAA).
•Continuous Learning Advocate: Passion for building a culture of
experimentation—organizing tech talks, hackathons, and peer-
learning sessions.
•Advanced Education or Certifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s in
Computer Science (or equivalent experience); certifications in cloud
architecture or project management a plus.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
