Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
We are seeking a sharp, decisive, and organized Senior Manager to lead our weekend newsroom operations. Based in our Washington, DC bureau, this role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of weekend news coverage, including breaking news, political coverage, live programming, and coordination across teams. The ideal candidate is a newsroom leader with strong editorial judgment, cable news experience, and the ability to manage high-stakes coverage with speed and clarity.
Responsibilities:
+ Serve as the senior editorial lead on weekends, making critical content and coverage decisions in real-time.
+ Oversee live programming blocks and breaking news situations from a leadership perspective.
+ Ensure consistent editorial quality and standards across all weekend content, editorial, digital, and social platforms.
+ Coordinate with weekday leadership teams to maintain continuity of coverage and editorial priorities.
+ Lead morning and evening editorial meetings, providing clear directives and planning guidance.
+ Monitor developing news, policy updates, and political developments relevant to the network’s brand.
+ Troubleshoot logistical or editorial issues in coordination with control room and tech ops.
+ Provide feedback, mentorship, and performance management for weekend staff.
+ Collaborate with booking, digital, and graphics teams to align storytelling across platforms.
Qualifications:
+ 7+ years of experience in a fast-paced, live news environment (preferably cable or broadcast).
+ At least 2–3 years in a managerial or senior editorial role.
+ Deep knowledge of U.S. politics, government institutions, and current events.
+ Exceptional editorial judgment and the ability to make swift decisions under pressure.
+ Experience overseeing breaking news events in real time.
+ Strong communication and team leadership skills.
+ Willingness to work a non-traditional schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualities:
+ Experience with iNews and SLACK
+ Background in both linear broadcast and digital news content.
+ Calm demeanor and strong decision-making ability under pressure.
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks and lead across departments.

Salary range: $135,000 - $150,000
