Job Summary:
The Director of Research plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing the research mission of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. This position supports faculty, staff, and students in achieving research excellence by providing strategic oversight, coordination, and mentorship across a wide range of activities.
Work Performed:
In addition to teaching courses in the corresponding field of study, key responsibilities include the management and enhancement of the College’s shared research projects, ensuring the evolving research needs are met with sufficient resources and support. The director actively supports the planning and scheduling of projects within the college while maximizing productivity and collaboration.
A cornerstone of the position is the research mentorship for junior faculty. They provide individualized support for faculty proposal development, offering one-on-one coaching, editing, and strategic guidance to strengthen submission success.
Beyond internal support, the director fosters interdisciplinary research teams across the university, connecting faculty within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and beyond to pursue collaborative, impactful research initiatives. They also serve as the College’s ambassador and advocate at research-related functions, events, and outreach activities, ensuring the College’s research achievements are visible and aligned with institutional and community priorities .
Necessary Qualifications:
Doctorate Degree in Nursing, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition/Dietetics, Athletic Training, or closely related Health Science field.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with experience teaching courses in areas of expertise.
• Commitment to an interdisciplinary team approach to education and research.
• Desire and ability to establish collegial relationships with department, college, university, and community members.
• Leadership skills, effective communication, self-motivation, and performance in a student-centered environment are expected.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the necessary qualifications, the preferred qualifications include the following:
• Proven record of research and scholarly achievement appropriate for rank.
• Funding experience or strong potential to secure funding to support research and scholarly activity.
• Professional certification or licensure related to Nursing and/or Nutrition/Dietetics (e.g., RD and/or CSSD) and/or Strength and Conditioning (e.g., CSCS and/or CPT).
• Experience advising and mentoring students in both academics and research.
• Experience teaching and developing curriculum in one or more of the following areas: Nursing, Health Science, Sport Nutrition/Bioenergetics, Dietetics, Strength and Conditioning, Therapeutic Modalities, Structural and Mechanical Kinesiology, Personal Training, Athletic Training, and Biomechanics.
