    Primary Function of Organizational Unit

    The mission of the HEA program is to prepare professionals to work in higher education settings where they promote social justice and responsibility, serve as leaders, and respond to the complexity of college student needs. The goal of the program is to produce exceptional practitioners who engage in best practices that foster 21st century college environments, where all students can thrive and successfully matriculate in a timely manner. The 42-credit hour higher education administration program is offered 100% online in an asynchronous learning format. Enrollment is full time and part-time and the HEA program incorporates a practicum experience, a capstone project, and the study of higher education in a student-centered environment.

     

    As a premier Historically Black University, The NCCU School of Education offers undergraduate, graduate, licensure and professional development programs to train students to become teachers, principals, counselors, as well as serve as mentors to community schools. The School offers traditional, classroom-based instruction as well as instruction via the Internet and teleconferencing. Faculty and staff bring diverse knowledge and experience, provide students with a unique learning experience; teach in small classroom size for easier access to each other and their instructors, and employ

     

    the latest technology.

    Primary Purpose of Position

    The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching, research, advising, and program enhancement goals of the M.S. in Higher Education Administration (HEA) Program. Specific responsibilities include teaching a standard course load with an option for one course load reduction as a new faculty member; the ability to demonstrate a record of scholarly activity, including professional publications and presentations; advising and mentoring HEA students; and engaging in service to the HEA program, Department of Counseling and Higher Education, and the university.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    The successful candidate is required to have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, record of scholarly productivity, and professional contribution in the field of higher education/student affairs commensurate with experience.

    Minimum Education/Experience

    Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in higher education, student affairs or related discipline.

    **Function** Instructional

     

    Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

     

    Primary teaching responsibilities include teaching online, masters-level graduate courses in higher education across the curriculum. The position holds a 3-3 teaching load for fall and spring semester; summer courses are also available. The successful candidate should have andragogically sound teaching methods that are aligned with the HEA’s program Historically Black University learning environment with adult learners and

     

    working professionals.

     

    **Function** Research

     

    Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

     

    The HEA program seeks a colleague with a scholarly research agenda grounded in any topic pertaining to the study of higher education that will add to the breadth and depth of scholarship already happening in the graduate program. The faculty member should establish an ongoing research agenda which includes publications, presentations, grants, and other scholarly activities. It is important that the faculty member also engage

     

    HEA students in their scholarly activities.

     

    **Function** Administrative

     

    Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

     

    The successful candidate will engage in program, department, school, and/or university service activities. The candidate will be student-centered and provide academic advising and opportunities for mentoring and engage in promotion of the HEA graduate program

     

    to the university, profession, and public.
