Description
Under the supervision of the HIV/STI Prevention Manager, the Public Health Project Coordinator - Physician Detailer work with private and institutional health care providers to increase knowledge, skills and abilities to discuss sexual health and appropriate testing, treatment, required reporting, referrals and prevention with clients in the City of Detroit. The employee will develop educational materials, coordinate, and directly implement education related to HIV/STI prevention and care, as well as LGBTQ+ cultural humility.
Examples of Duties
Program Implementation
+ Engage clinicians and other health care providers to educate and increase capacity to standardize taking sexual histories as part of care; provide appropriate testing, treatment and reporting; and refer patients to appropriate agencies for such services.
+ Collaborate with community agencies on issues involving HIV/STI prevention.
+ Independently schedule trainings with clinicians and clinic office staff to provide training, resources, and materials.
+ Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of HIV/STI strategies in partnership with public and private organizations.
+ Develop and promote education and behavior change materials that are medically accurate, culturally appropriate, and educationally sound.
+ Provide education and counseling to medical providers to prepare them to best serve their clientele based on unique needs, lifestyle, cultural and socio-economic situation.
+ Ensure client confidentiality, complying with HIPAA requirements at all times.

+ Adhere to ethical principles and Detroit Health Department policies in the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of data and information.
Communication
+ Promote culturally-appropriate information to help collaborators better serve youth, LGBTQ+ individuals, and other populations at increased risk for exposure to STI/HIV.
+ Utilize appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, and ethnic, sexual orientations, lifestyles and physical abilities.
+ Advocate on behalf of vulnerable individuals and populations to ensure that physicians are informed of available health department and community programs and services, and are assisted in the utilization of relevant services.

+ Participate in Public Health Emergency Preparedness activities in real or simulated emergencies.
+ Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in Public Health, Nursing, Education, Health Education, Social Work or related field of study; Master’s Degree preferred.
Three (3) years’ experience in HIV/STI education, counseling and testing, or clinic.
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) desired.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirement of this position.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
- At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
- At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

- An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
