Open to the general public and any current Municipal employees.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

HOURS OF WORK: Hours Vary; Monday thru Sunday 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM
This is a seasonal, full-time position which has an anticipated start date of March 31, 2025 and ending approximately and date of September 30, 2025.

Example of Duties
Under supervision the Summer Camp Recreation Specialist II leads entry level summer camp and facility staff. Delivers recreation
summer camp and in-service day activities and events, monitors summer camp and in-service day participants behaviors, ensures
that the summer camp and in-service day operations are in accordance with the American Camping Association standards, and
cleans facilities.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year experience in the program or activity under consideration. Prior experience in the use of recreational equipment is required.
Must possess the following at time of hire:
+ Be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
+ Valid State of Alaska driver's license with satisfactory driving record
+ Current Pediatric and Adult American Red Cross First Aid/CPR Certification or the equivalent (must be an instructor led class)
+ American Red Cross First Aid Certification and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or equivalent
Preferences:
+ Prefer applicant with experience leading programs or activities in recreation
+ Prefer experience in operating a recreational facility, campground, or chalet
Additional Important Information
Preference will be given to returning Seasonal Employees who are eligible for Recall as per AMEA 3.14.8, and to any current Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. Recalled and AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.
If selected for hire, the applicant must be capable of bending, twisting, kneeling, repetitive motion of hands/fingers; grasping with hand, gripping; lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and working in or being exposed to inclement weather.

Satisfactory Municipality of Anchorage Background Check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education and dates of employment.
Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160), (AS 12.62.400) and AMC 16.55.250. Applicants will be required to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 (State of Alaska fee) plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work. In some cases the processing fee may be reimbursed.
Current copy of the applicant's Pediatric and Adult First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications by the time of hire. (Must be an instructor led class)
Following hire, candidates must complete mandatory orientation and training for continued employment (a minimum of 24 hours required).
All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one (1) year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.

Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
