As a Principal Software Engineer in the Bing Search by Business team, you will be responsible for advancing the search serving architecture across Bing and designing the next-generation search platform. This role provides an opportunity to enhance your skills in complex distributed systems, learn to effectively apply AI to benefit users, and gain knowledge of state-of-the-art search systems. In this position, you have the option to work remotely up to 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

+ Unification of search runtime architecture across different teams.

+ Design of how the search architecture would look like in future.

+ Design and implementation of customization for existing runtime architecture.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 6+ years technical experience in software engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, C#, Java, or Python

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ 2+ years experience with large-scale search stack infrastructure, including retrieval and ranking.

+ 2+ years experience with recent search technologies including LLM/SLM and deep learning models.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ 2+ years experience modernizing complex engineering systems.

+ Exceptional communication abilities, with a demonstrated history of effectively conveying complex engineering issues and solutions to a target audience, often consisting of partners.

+ Knowledge of Bing runtime stack.

+ Experience with distributed systems.

+ Experience with data science as it relates to training and evaluating AI models.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
