We’re looking for an experienced Senior Director, Corporate Affairs to fill this role, which is a hybrid position based in our Seattle office. Supporting senior leadership and reporting to Carnival Corporation's Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs, you’ll be responsible for sustaining the long-term commercial success of our business and managing risks in priority markets by working with management and our individual cruise lines. This includes re-shaping the relationship with key stakeholders (such as ports, governments and community leaders) in priority locations to help proactively ‘front foot’ issues that may affect the business, spearheading opportunities for deeper engagement and partnerships to build a more resilient business and create competitive advantage for our business in key communities, and navigating complex political and regulatory environments and advocating for policies that advance our business objectives. Although your main focus will be Canada, Washington, California and Hawaii, the position demands a global worldview, including liaising with external stakeholders representing international markets.

Responsibilities
+ Strategic Leadership:
+ Develop and implement government relations strategies aligned with the company’s vision and values to make a difference at scale in Canada, Washington, California and Hawaii.
+ Lead the identification of priorities and opportunities in key markets/ports to support and align with business priorities.
+ Provide guidance and support to senior leadership & colleagues on engagement with governments and stakeholders.
+ Work across the business to provide leadership on the mitigation of broader public affairs and communications challenges.
+ Government Engagement:
+ Nurture and maintain relationships with senior government officials and legislators, policymakers and political staff and regulatory authorities across diverse geographies and political systems in Canada, Washington, California and Hawaii. Ensure the company’s interests are represented effectively at all levels of government specific to the nuances and different needs of each political system and geography.
+ Lead advocacy efforts to shape legislation, regulations and public policies that impact our business operations and affect the dynamics of our industry.
+ Monitor and analyze legislative developments, anticipating potential impacts on the company’s operations & reputation, and formulating effective advocacy strategies.
+ Testify before Port Commissions and/or other committees as required in addition to public speaking at relevant events and forums.
+ Provide timely guidance and recommendations to internal stakeholders on requirements, risk mitigation and advocacy opportunities.
+ Identify third -party funding opportunities where possible to amplify impact of business goals.
+ Assume leadership role with industry bodies (such as BC Chamber of Shipping, PNW CLIA, PNW Green Corridor) to guide industry interactions in key markets.
+ Stakeholder Relations:
+ Serve as primary liaison between the company and external stakeholders including industry associations, business associations, advocacy groups and NGOs in key markets.
+ Engage in dialogue with diverse stakeholders to identify opportunities, build consensus, address concerns, promote collaboration on areas of mutual interest.
+ Identify projects that draw on the principles of ‘shared value’ that make commercial sense and create competitive advantage for brands.
+ Assume industry leadership role for specific stakeholder projects to support business objectives.
+ Team leadership and development:
+ Provide mentorship, guidance and professional support to team members across the business to foster shared commercial success.
+ Proactively share knowledge and information to empower colleagues to excel in their roles and contribute to company success.
+ Other Functions:
+ Manage the introduction of a stakeholder database to formalize engagement for use across global operations.
+ Join board of the BC Chamber of Shipping to advocate for Carnival Corporation and represent cruise industry interests.
+ Manage a budget inclusive of advisory services in key markets (includes consultants in California, Washington and Canada).
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
+ Bachelor's degree in Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, Politics, Public Policy, Government Relations, Media Relations or equivalent experience.
+ Minimum of 10 years of senior level experience in government relations, public affairs or related roles within a multinational corporation or complex industry environment.
+ Demonstrated expertise in engaging with government officials and influencing policy outcomes on a global scale.
+ Exceptional strategic thinking and the ability to anticipate and respond to emerging political, public policy or community trends.
+ Proven track-record of building and maintaining effective relationships with diverse stakeholders including government agencies, industry partners, industry bodies and business associations.
+ Proven experience and strength in issues management.
+ Leadership experience including managing cross-functional teams.
+ Strong communication, negotiation and persuasion skills, including an ability to effectively interact with senior executives, politicians, heads of department, port CEOs and other external stakeholders at similar seniority.
+ Excellent writing skills.
+ Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely to internal and external audiences, including creating compelling messages for diverse audiences.
+ Flexibility to travel on short notice as important engagement opportunities or issues arise.
+ Experience building relationships and government engagement in destinations we visit.
+ Experience managing proactive engagement with a wide range of external stakeholders at a senior level.
+ Commitment to fostering a culture of integrity and shared success.
+ Demonstrate skills and responsible AI practices.
+ Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Holland America is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-1B status).
Please note that this is a hybrid position based in Seattle, WA. Candidates must be comfortable coming into the office 3 days/week (Tuesday-Thursday).

+ Base Salary Range: $191,000.00.00-$257,800.00. The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidates' qualifications and experience uniquely.
