Provides indirect care in the department setting. Monitors telemetry monitors for alarms in order to immediately notify available nursing staff. Meets communication needs of the department. Transcribes physician orders from records with notation and signatures by nursing staff. Prepares and compiles records in the department. Maintains regulatory body requirements, policies and procedures and participates in performance improvement activities.
Education
Preferred High School Graduate
Experience
Preferred Unit Secretary or Medical Assistant training
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
Current BLS certification PREFERRED, Cardiac monitoring certificate encouraged, training required for basic knowledge of telemetry.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, additional languages preferred. Basic computer knowledge/word processing. Medical terminology preferred. Able to recognize arrhythmias and interpret cardiac rhythms after training
Supervised by: Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager
Including, but not limited to: other staff members, physicians, patients, families, ancillary departments.

Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care as defined by job responsibilities and performance standards in this job description to include Patient Safety Performance Standards for the identified population served below:
+ Pre-term/High Risk Neonate
+ Neonate (newborn to 28 days)
+ Pediatric (One month to 12 years)
+ Young Adult (18 to 35 years)
+ Adult (35 to 65 years)
+ Geriatric (65 years and over)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF COMPETENT PERFORMANCE FOR THIS POSITION
+ Transcribes physician orders on a priority basis according to policy and procedure.
+ Maintains the patient record in sequential order, filing reports and test results as received.
+ Reviews chart and Kardex daily for unsigned orders, unordered items, accuracy of Kardex information and correctly filed labs and reports. Keeps adequate number of forms on chart for nursing/physician use.
+ Prepares and labels nursing notes, charge cards, I&O sheets and other forms for next shift, assures that sufficient labels are on each chart and copies are made of all nursing forms.
+ Prepares and copies the patient record for discharge or transfer when ordered by physicians.
+ Communicates pertinent patient care information and operational problems to Registered
+ Answers the phone identifying station, name and job title to maintain the professional image of the unit.
