A Brief Overview
Contributes to a culture of collaboration and inclusion by fully integrating and aligning Avera Foundation's operational strategies and tactics with all stakeholders. The VP – Foundation Operations serves as a key member of Avera's philanthropy leadership team and will lead gift processing, constituent services, financial reporting activities, fund and endowment management, fund distribution, Avera Careflight membership program, and other philanthropy support functions for the Avera Foundation. In addition to operational responsibilities, this leadership role manages a cohort of constituents capable of contributing major gifts. Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, this leader will champion Avera's community engagement efforts by integrating and managing mission-critical best practice philanthropy operations, performance metrics, planned and legacy giving administration, among other initiatives.
What you will do
+ Manages a series of philanthropy support services to include gift processing, fund distribution, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, performance metrics, planned and legacy giving administration, biographical records. Assess internal systems and processes to identify gaps and recommend solutions that increase workflow efficiency and facilitate ease of giving.
+ Carries a portfolio of assigned constituents and works on a healthy balance of 50% cultivation, 40% solicitation and 10% stewardship. Cultivates relationships to support assigned philanthropic priorities and giving level(s) (mid, major, and legacy/planned giving) and meets philanthropic revenue goals through relationship building activities such as personal visits, letters, telephone calls, etc.
+ Develops a high functioning support service culture by training, managing, and developing a competent, accountable, and cohesive Avera Foundation philanthropy and constituent services staff.
+ Provide strategic, operational direction to achieve overall Foundation objectives. Including overseeing, planning, and leading annual budget planning forecasting to maximize return on investments (ROI) and executing planning decisions to ensure the strategic allocation of resources.
+ Partners with the Foundation Leadership Council (FLC) to develop a set of system-wide philanthropy performance metrics and tracks and reports progress toward achieving performance metric goals and objectives. Suggests performance metrics updates based on evolving national healthcare system fundraising trends and best practices.
+ Serve as the executive sponsor and thought partner to ensure operational systems (technology) and workflow processes (project management) across the Foundation are efficient and platform investments are being optimized
+ Develops, implements and monitors best practice system-wide philanthropic policies, procedures and processes.
+ Assists with compliance to applicable state and federal philanthropic legal requirements (HIPAA, state charitable registration process, etc.).
+ Assists with the administration of planned gifts and provides leadership for the Avera Careflight membership program.
+ Evaluate, recommend, and execute operational process improvement opportunities, inclusive of team member and donor experience.
+ Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
+ Bachelor's in public relations, communications, nonprofit management or a related field.
+ 4-6 years Proven experience working with standardized philanthropy best practices, procedures and processes in a sophisticated environment.
+ 4-6 years Proven track record of managing a portfolio of constituents and successfully raising major gifts from individual and organizational constituents, leading philanthropy operations, preferably in a healthcare or human services setting.
+ Experience setting personal and team benchmarks, regularly measuring success against goals, and responsible for outcomes.
+ 4-6 years Experience managing staff in a sophisticated, metric-driven environment.
