    The American Express Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team is a strategic function that works to enhance and protect the continued strength of the American Express brand through public relations, social media and content, colleague communications and corporate sustainability (CS).

     

    The Analyst – Corporate Sustainability, Climate Data and Controls Management will play a critical role in advancing American Express' enterprise climate data management and reporting, including supporting management of the greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, helping to implement effective controls across the company’s climate data management processes, and assisting the enterprise’s regulatory reporting readiness efforts. The role will report to the Manager of Corporate Sustainability Climate Data and Controls Management in New York and sit on the enterprise Global Sustainability team. The Analyst will collaborate cross-functionally with key global business units and stakeholders

    How will you make an impact in this role?

    GHG Inventory & Climate Data Management:

    + Support end-to-end management of Amex’s GHG inventory including project and resource management and ensuring climate data deliverables meet evolving needs.

    + Oversee day-to-day tasks of implementing and further developing Amex's climate data management technology platform.

    + Monitor sustainability regulations, sustainability trends, best practices and peer initiatives to inform climate data management and disclosure programs.

    + Coordinates meetings, compiles information, supports benchmarking and other related activities.

    + Support pre-assurance and assurance activities related to the GHG inventory and climate data in partnership with relevant business units and internal and external auditors as appropriate.

    Controls Management & Regulatory Compliance:

    + Support internal controls tasks related to GHG inventory creation and reporting

    + Assist in designing, implementing, and monitoring control mechanisms to ensure compliance with climate-related regulatory requirements.

    + Coordinate development and ongoing support of internal GHG inventory governance processes.

    + Oversee and track improvements to Amex’s GHG accounting practices and data sources, ensuring changes are consistently communicated internally and across all disclosures.

    Voluntary & Regulatory Sustainability Reporting:

    + Support implementation of Amex global sustainability reporting framework with key teams to help meet evolving regulatory requirements.

    + Manage delivery of climate data to support regulatory reporting needs at the enterprise and market level, as necessary and relevant to Amex.

    + Support delivery of data inputs and climate-related disclosures for voluntary disclosures (e.g., CDP) as needed and to satisfy requirements relevant to Amex (e.g., Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)).

    + Provides counsel on best practices and relevant positions related to GHG data reporting, in both regulated and voluntary capacities.

    + Support data management and reporting activities for other sustainability related data, including social and governance disclosures for voluntary and regulatory reporting as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + At least 2 years’ experience in a related climate or Sustainability role with expertise in data management and reporting

    + A critical thinker with attention to detail and the ability to work with large data sets

    + Experience working with GHG emissions or related data

    + Strong understanding of Climate and Sustainability issues and associated market trends, preferably in the financial services sector

    + Demonstrated expertise and experience with sustainability reporting and frameworks including CDP and/or GHG Protocol, or SBTi

    + Strong project management experience, including the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously

    + Excellent technical, analytical, software, and presentation skills

    + Ability to work independently, collaboratively, cross-functionally and globally in a deadline-oriented environment

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience with reporting and data management tools such as Workiva, Salesforce, Watershed, or similar

    + Understanding of sustainability reporting regulations (CSRD, UK TCFD, Australia ASRS, etc.)

    + Bachelors’ degree in relevant fields including Sustainability Management, Environmental Studies, accounting, etc.

    Qualifications

    Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually bonus benefits
