    ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE

    John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V.     POSITION** **OVERVIEW

    The Accounting, Audit and Compliance Office of the Department of Finance and Business Services is the custodian of accounts for College entities with funding not allocated through NYS Budget appropriations. These entities are identified as non-tax levy funding sources. The unit manages the College Depository, the Auxiliary Services Corporation, Inc. and the John Jay College Foundation, Inc., is responsible for posting banking/ treasury transactions, reconciling bank and investment activity, where applicable, for all College entities, and provides oversight for the Student Activities Association, Inc. and the Children’s Center of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Inc.

    Reporting to the Associate Director, Accounting Operations, this position will be responsible for the following, including the CUNY Title overview:

    + Perform general accounting functions, including, but not limited to accounts payable, general ledger, and adjusting journal entries for the College’s entities

    + Review cash receipts and payment requests to ensure proper coding and approvals for the John Jay College Foundation

    + Analyzing and posting the John Jay College Foundation’s investments activity to the appropriate general ledger accounts

    + Assist in recording revenue in the unit’s accounting software

    + Prepare, compile and maintain monthly reconciliations for the John Jay College Foundation’s transactions

    + Assist in reconciliation of credit card transactions related to merchant services and making appropriate adjustments

    + Assist with the operations associated with year-end procedures, annual audits and other financial functions

    + Support the Associate Director to improve internal controls and streamlining processes

    + Responsible for creating a culture of data quality by establishing quality assurance protocols for proper file management

    + Coordinate accurate maintenance of vendor information, including W-9s, and assisting with annual 1099 preparation and filings for the John Jay College Foundation

    + Ensure proper authorization and documentation for certain Non-Tax Levy payments, including correct coding of disbursements across various funds

    + Prepare ad hoc reports and queries, and perform special projects, as requested.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

    PREFERRED Qualifications

    + Degree in Accounting or related field and four years of related experience required.

    + Experience in higher education highly desirable.

    + Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products required, especially proficiency in Excel is a must. Demonstrated proactive approach and self-initiative is a strong plus.

    + Managing projects and priorities in a dynamic, fluid environment.

    + Creativity and independent problem-solving skills.

    + Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

    + Possess excellent analytical skills in a fast and diverse environment.

    + Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of users with different expectations and backgrounds.

    + Strong organizational skills with emphasis on detail and follow-up.

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills, presentation skills, and organizational and interpersonal skills are required.

    CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

    Coordinates financial matters for a program or department under management direction.

     

    - Maintains financial accounts for income and spending; administers the allocation of funds

     

    - Analyzes spending, income trends and usage to recommend improvements

     

    - Manages the collection of revenue and accounts receivable

     

    - Tracks and maintains financial data to provide fiscal reports to management; produces forecasting projections

     

    - Monitors the financial condition of operating centers to ensure efficient use of resources

     

    - Performs ad hoc reporting and analysis as necessary

     

    - May supervise subordinate staff

     

    - Performs related duties as assigned.
