    Summary :

    The Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a state agency serving Idahoans who are deaf or hard of hearing to improve their quality of life by providing information, serving as an advocate, and increasing services and access to those services.

     

    The Communication & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for increasing public awareness of the Idaho Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CDHH), its programs, and resources through strategic communication efforts. This role develops outreach initiatives, manages social media and digital content, and fosters relationships with stakeholders to promote accessibility awareness.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Public Awareness & Outreach

    + Develops and implements outreach strategies to enhance public understanding of CDHH services

    + Organizes and represents CDHH at expos, conferences, and media events.

    + Builds partnerships with community organizations and government agencies to increase visibility

    + Digital & Traditional Media Management

    + Designs and maintains CDHH’s website and social media platforms, ensuring up-to-date and engaging content

    + Creates informational materials, including infographics, newsletters, and reports.

    + Produces multimedia content such as videos, blogs, and public service announcements to increase engagemen t

    + Creates videos for training, social media, and promotional purposes

    + Basic knowledge of video editing software and techniques to enhance visual content

    Training & Public Education

    + Develops and delivers training sessions, presentations, and webinars on accessibility, assistive technology, and deaf culture

    + Assists in the production of instructional materials and publications

    + Facilitates workshops to educate stakeholders on best practices for deaf and hard-of-hearing inclusion

    Communications & Public Relations

    + Responds to public inquiries and provides clear, accurate information about CDHH programs

    + Coordinates external communication efforts, including press releases and media relations

    + Ensures brand consistency across all CDHH communications

    Policy & Accessibility Awareness

    + Educates businesses, service providers, and government agencies on their legal obligations under ADA and other accessibility laws

    + Serves as a liaison to promote effective communication between CDHH and the broader community

    + Monitors trends and issues affecting the deaf and hard-of-hearing community and incorporates them into outreach efforts

    Technology & Research

    + Maintains knowledge of assistive technologies available for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community

    + Conducts research on emerging technologies and evaluates their potential applications for accessibility improvements

    + Provides guidance and training on the use of assistive technologies to stakeholders and community members

    Other Duties

    + Assists with virtual meetings, including Zoom administration for Council meetings

    + Participates in advisory boards, councils, and working groups related to outreach initiatives

    + Supports CDHH’s mission in other assigned capacities as needed

    Minimum Qualifications :

    + Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)

    + Bachelor’s degree in Communications , Deaf Studies, Public Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

    + At least one year of experience in public speaking, communications, or outreach.

    + Strong oral and written communication skills

    + Experience with social media management, website content development, and public relations

    + Basic knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and federal/state accessibility laws

    + Ability to travel in-state for outreach and training events

    + Familiarity with assistive technologies and willingness to research emerging technologies for accessibility improvement.

    + Basic knowledge of video editing software and content creation

    Prefered Qualification :

    + Master’s degree in Communications , Deaf Studies, Public Relations, or related field.

    + Five years of experience in public speaking, outreach, or marketin g

    + Advanced knowledge of ADA, accessibility compliance, and deaf/hard-of-hearing resources

    + Experience with graphic design, multimedia content creation, and digital marketing
