Grant Funded - HQ -Statewide Training Team
The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS), Regulatory Compliance Division, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Safety and Compliance Specialist within its CDL Unit.
Under limited supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for all facets of the initial and ongoing certification requirements of Commercial Vehicle Driver Training School Owners, Instructors, as well as State CDL Examiners and Third Party CDL Examiners throughout the State of Georgia.
The incumbent will:
• Develop and deliver training to CDL schools, instructors, third-party testers, and third-party examiners
• Conduct a needs assessment for TPT and CDL Schools that require targeted attention to meet testing and training requirements
• Audit and monitor all CDL regulated programs, instructors, and Examiners within his or her area of assignment to ensure compliance with federal regulations, agency rules and state law
• Interpret and maintain knowledge of state, federal, and other Commercial Driver’s License regulations
• Respond to management and customer inquiries in a professional and timely manner in accordance with the core values of DDS
• Investigating customer complaints, presenting his or her finding to management, and making recommendations to management on the most appropriate course of action
• Serve on task teams and workgroups
• Develop strong partnerships between the Division and its internal and external business partners
• Assist with training events, certifications classes, and community outreach efforts
• Compile various weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports
• Enter road test scores in DRIVES when submitted by Third Party Examiners
• Record and enter data accurately, to include CSTIMS scoresheets and schedules
Demonstrated competencies needed to successfully perform this job include:
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to independently research and analyze information and draw logical inferences and conclusions
• Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
• Ability to make decisions with limited supervision
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to interpret federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines
• Experience inspecting materials for compliance
• Demonstrated record of dependable work attendance

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and TWO (2) years job-related experience or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Safety and Complnc. Spec. 1 (RCP010) or position equivalent - interpreting and applying state laws, rules, and regulations in order to determine whether an applicant meets certain statutory requirements to hold a particular government-regulated credential, certification, or license;

OR
Associates degree in a related field such as business, public administration, occupational safety, and one year of related experience interpreting and applying state laws, rules, and regulations in order to determine whether an applicant meets certain statutory requirements to hold a particular government-regulated credential, certification, or license
Note: Related experience may include but is not limited to: State Driver's License Examiner, CDL Examiner, CDL Instructor, Law Enforcement Officer, Military Veteran, Educators, Trainers, etc. Some positions may require a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess two or more of the following:
• Georgia Class A CDL and/or Class B CDL with P and S endorsements
• One (1) year of experience driving a commercial motor vehicle as defined in 49 CFR 390.5 “Commercial motor vehicle”
• Two (2 years) of prior knowledge of State and Federal Commercial Driver’s License Regulations.
Conditions of Employment: Employees in this position are required to travel in-state. Week-long, overnight travel is also required. Selected candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to travel statewide. Selected applicants must also be able to physically maneuver under commercial vehicles of all types to conduct vehicle inspections. This position may also involve bending, lifting, performing outdoor activities, working in inclement weather, and working on holidays, as well as around moving vehicles. This position may also require driving and fueling commercial vehicles. Upon acceptance of the position, the selected applicant would be required to possess a minimum of a Class A CDL with a P & S endorsement within twelve (12) months of hire.
