Position Summary: The Dosimetrist consults with radiation oncologists and physicists on treatment strategies for patients in order to provide optimal treatment plans. The Dosimetrist calculates and checks treatment parameters, instructs radiation therapists regarding implementation of treatment plans and reviews patient’s charts for dosimetry accuracy.Duties and ResponsibilitiesDemonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:1. Performs treatment planning, including external beam, brachytherapy and any new techniques and procedures as implemented by department.2. Demonstrates proficiency in using treatment planning software and hardware.3. Performs troubleshooting of computer systems in collaboration with vendor.4. Calculates patient treatment times as well as verifies calculations performed by other clinicians.5. Researches, develops and fabricates immobilization devices and treatment aides.6. Assists in simulation procedures, obtaining contours and special measurements.7. Assists in special radiotherapy procedures.8. Instructs radiation therapy students in physics and dosimetry assuring that the education reflects the requirements for the training program.9. Under the supervision of a physicist, performs periodic treatment machine calibrations, surveys and other aspects of the radiation oncology department’s quality assurance program.10. Documents and maintains records as required by State, JCAHO and other regulatory agencies.Regulatory Requirements:• Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) or eligibleLanguage Skills:• Able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.• Strong written and verbal skills.• Additional languages preferred.Skills:• Basic computer knowledge.Physical Demands:• For physical demands of position, including vision, hearing, repetitive motion and environment, see following description.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position without compromising client care.
