Job Summary
The Office of Alumni Relations seeks an energetic and outgoing self-starter to support the work being done to engage students and alumni through student programs. This position will report to the Sr. Associate Director, Events and Engagement. The successful candidate will be a strong self-starter and organizer with a passion for working closely with students and alumni, and have a strong understanding of the mission and vision of the Office of Alumni Relations, and the University of Utah. This position will play a key role in the strategic execution of the student engagement plan for the Office of Alumni Relations, and will work closely with students, alumni, and campus partners to execute this plan. **Working Environment:** This role requires a balance of office-based work and in-person event facilitation. The successful candidate should be comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and student-facing environment.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Sr. Associate Director, assists with managing and strengthening the daily operations of the student engagement programs in the Utah Alumni Office. Including, but not limited to:
**Student Alumni Board ( SAB ) –** The Mission Statement for SAB is “Enhancing the student experience and cultivating future engaged University of Utah alumni by fostering leadership development, nurturing a philanthropic spirit, encouraging student participation within the U of U community, and promoting and preserving Utah Traditions.” The board consists of approximately 27 students that are divided into 4 committees: Philanthropy, Homecoming, Food Drive and Traditions.
+ Assist in advising and mentoring the SAB , a student-led board focused on: Philanthropy education and student giving initiatives
+ University traditions and spirit-building activities
+ Campus-wide service events (e.g., annual food drive)
+ Planning and execution of Homecoming student events
+ Support leadership development and training for SAB members
+ Coordinate marketing, outreach, and logistics for SAB programs and events
**MUSS -** Formed in 2002, The MUSS was originally created to accomplish the following goals: Promote unity within the student body, encourage interaction between different student groups, develop traditions for students at games, form a bond between the team and the students, create an identifiable group in the stadium, and to provide students with a memorable undergrad experience. The MUSS originally started with Football, it is now focused on accomplishing these goals for all of the Utah sports. The MUSS board consists of approximately 27 students that are divided into 4 committees: Football, Olympic Sports, Outreach and Marketing.
+ Provide programmatic support for the MUSS Board, the student leadership group dedicated to promoting student involvement in Utah Athletics
+ Support the planning and execution of initiatives to increase student attendance, enthusiasm, and engagement at athletic events
+ Assist in the management and growth of the MUSS program
+ Help coordinate game-day logistics, student section experiences, and collaborative events with Athletics and student groups
Additional Duties:
+ Serve as a liaison between the Alumni Office, Athletics, Student Affairs, and other campus partners
+ Monitor and assess the effectiveness of engagement initiatives; provide regular feedback and reporting and
+ Manage budgets and vendor relations related to assigned programs
+ Work with the Alumni Board of Governors on the Student Engagement Committee
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, public relations, student affairs, or a related field
+ At least 2 years of professional experience in student programming, event planning, alumni relations, or related areas
+ Demonstrated experience working with students in a mentorship or advisory capacity
+ Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
+ Availability to work some evenings and weekends for events
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience working with student boards or leadership development programs
+ Familiarity with university advancement, alumni engagement, or athletics administration
+ Passion for fostering school spirit, tradition, and student involvement
