    Job Summary

    The Frankel Center for Judaic Studies offers students an interdisciplinary journey into Jewish history, religion, languages, and culture. Students develop valuable skills in research, writing, critical thinking, and communication as they explore the richness of Jewish civilization. The major, minor, and graduate certificate programs provide pathways to delve into Jewish history, traditions, and interactions with the world, equipping students with specialized knowledge and a broader perspective on complex global issues.

     

    The Frankel Center is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic professional to independently manage student services administration. This pivotal position will also be responsible for recruiting prospective students, overseeing admissions, providing academic advising, and developing student programming initiatives. The role includes exercising a high level of initiative and discretion. The successful candidate should have a developed skill set, the ability to work under pressure while multi-tasking, and the ability to maintain a friendly and calm professional demeanor. The candidate must also be able to deliver exceptional customer service to faculty, students, and alumni, and will partner with Jewish organizations.     Mission Statement

    Responsibilities*

    Curriculum: Undergraduate and Graduate

     

    Provide support to the Associate Director in orchestrating the curriculum of the program by coordinating course schedules and offerings. Provide guidance on curricular related matters, and policies and procedures.

     

    Oversee requirements for the Major, Minor, and Graduate Certificate. Generate time schedule on a term-by-term basis and manage the course approval request process.

     

    Perform administrative details related to curriculum such as room scheduling, overrides, course evaluations, and distribution requirements.

     

    Utilize the University's reporting system to obtain curriculum, admissions and enrollment information, compile statistics and academic reports.

     

    Support the Curriculum Committee in terms of preparing agendas, composing meeting meetings, compiling supporting materials for agenda items, and providing follow-up on discussion or directives from those meetings to see that appropriate action items are initiated.

     

    Student Services: Undergraduate and Graduate

     

    Recruit students within the university and around the US; represent Judaic Studies both on-and-off campus to prospective students and their families; manage recruitment activities.

     

    Manage all aspects of the application and admissions process for the Graduate Certificate Program. Facilitate supplemental and five-year funding packages for PhD students; partner with LSA Humanities and Social Science units. Manage funding requests and financial awards.

     

    Establish and launch student activities such as orientation, lunch meetings with guest speakers, graduate student workshops, capstone presentation, and graduation reception.

     

    Manage Judaic Studies Practicum course; convene academic sessions, recruit session leaders, arrange logistics, track writing assignments, organize student oral presentations and assist with

     

    field placements.

     

    Develop promotional materials and new programming initiatives such as internships and study abroad opportunities.

     

    Advising

     

    Provide undergraduate academic advising on course curriculum and plans of study. Monitor students' academic records for progress towards degree and compliance with degree requirements. Conduct and authorize degree audits.

     

    Review student's classroom performance throughout the semester and meet with students as needed to make necessary adjustments to improve performance. Identify students in crisis and provide resources/referrals.

     

    Administrative Support

     

    Provide support to the programs Community and Culture Liaisons. Perform other administrative duties as assigned in order to support the goals and objectives of the program, including support for special projects.

     

    Maintain Judaic Studies curricular website. Coordinate work of the student office assistant. Provide back-up support for the Executive Assistant and other staff as needed.

    Required Qualifications*

    Associates degree and/or equivalent combination of education; 2 or more years administrative experience; 2 or more years of academic advising/coaching; capable of working in a collaborative office environment; exhibit excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; capable of working independently and as part of a team while promoting a culture of respect and cooperation; exercise sound judgement and decision making skills; exhibit diplomacy in working with a diverse group of students, staff and faculty and other professionals; demonstrated trouble shooting and problem solving skills; ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and successfully meet deadlines; ability to develop new initiatives and programs; excellent computing skills including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and Zoom or equivalent.

    Desired Qualifications*

    Previous experience in academic student services; academic advising experience in higher education; familiar with the structure of Jewish communal, educational and advocacy organizations, as well as familiarity with the field of Judaic Studies; knowledge of rules and policies relating to student affairs; reasonable knowledge of student advising and guidance practices; competency in using InDesign and Illustrator, MS Publisher, M-Pathways Student Administration and various LSA Systems including MRS, Student Advising File, Blue, and Course Maintenance; working knowledge of University policies and procedures.

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.     Additional Information

     

    The target salary range for this position is $47,000-$58,500. Please note a higher salary may be offered for highly qualified candidates.

     

    This is a full-time position. This position is in-person but will have some flexibility to work from home on a set schedule based on business needs. The department reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employees.
