Job Purpose:
The Data Analyst is responsible for utilizing a multitude of data sources to monitor global locomotive fleet performance to identify and understand trends and outliers. This data will be utilized to recommend and prioritize projects targeted at improving locomotive reliability and overall fleet performance. The Data Analyst will work with internal and customer representatives to collect and understand the necessary data for these activities.

Key Job Elements:
• Works with various rail line services – both domestic and international – to collect, understand, and analyze locomotive performance and shopping data;
• Utilize internal and external tools such as IntelliTrain/Uptime, LTS, SAP, PowerBI and customers’ systems;
• Coordinate and consult with a variety of departments, such as design engineering, reliability, field service and contract maintenance to gather information to understand and analyze locomotive failure data;
• Provide information to and collaborate with Service Reliability team to support fleet and product improvement initiatives;
• Generate locomotive metrics report-outs utilizing appropriate data sources;
• Run reports on road failure prevention, connectivity rates, and other various topics;
• Assist in the investigation and documentation of product warranty issues;
• Assist in the identification, investigation and resolution of product reliability and performance issues;
• Travel as required to support meetings and investigations.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel;
• Medium level of oral and written communications skills;
• Medium level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers and workforce;
• High level of analytical ability where problems are complex;
• Knowledge of fundamental statistics;
• Knowledge of fundamental data analytics and visualization;
Preferred Skills
• High attention to details and ability to exhibit critical thinking;
• Understanding of and ability to develop Weibulls;
• Experience with EMD locomotives;
• Medium level of mechanical and electrical aptitude;
• Ability to read Engineering drawings and electrical schematics;
• Knowledge of locomotive shop practices;
• Knowledge of locomotive database information;
• Functional knowledge of the railroad’s locomotive tracking computer system;
• Ability to self-motivate through identifying and prioritizing new tasks as the data story evolves.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions
• Motion – The position spends most of the time in an office setting. The position will require occasional walking, standing, stooping, and bending;
• Vision/Hearing Requirements – This position spends prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer and must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers;
• Work Environment – Work in temperature-controlled environment;
• Emotional Demands – Required to liaise with multiple levels within the organization, including senior leaders and managers. Individual must be well-spoken, able to manage multiple priorities and individual requests daily;
• Safety – This is not a safety sensitive position. It is primarily an office position requiring awareness of the safety requirement in an office environment within the facility; must be capable of following all safety protocols.
