The Director, President Communications, The Hartford, will lead and execute a comprehensive, multi-year communication strategy for the company’s president that raises his visibility as an enterprise-wide leader internally and as a thought leader in the industry and in the broader business community. The Director will develop communications for multistakeholder audiences that enable the president to drive the company’s strategy; influence a growth, innovation, and customer-centric culture internally; and raise awareness of the company’s risk expertise and mitigation capabilities externally among a global business audience. This role reports to the AVP of CEO Communications and is based in our Hartford, CT Home Office on a hybrid basis (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in the office).
Responsibilities:
+ Collaborate directly with president and leaders across the enterprise to develop and execute the president’s communications strategy in alignment with CEO’s communications plan.
+ Develop a multi-year thought leadership strategy for the president that aligns to the business and his interests, incorporates non-profit organizations and NGOs to build credibility and leverages key speaking platforms, social media and news media to extend the reach and engagement among key audiences.
+ Lead strategy and message development for president’s events and communications for internal and external audiences including town halls, senior leader meetings, quarterly leadership meetings. blogs, emails and social media. Partner with media relations to develop and execute the media relations plan.
+ Partner with heads of businesses, Human Resources, Investor Relations, Securities Law, Government Affairs, Corporate Sustainability, Media & PR to review, develop or refine messages and remarks.
+ Contribute to CEO communications and other Enterprise Communications key initiatives including Chairman’s Awards, reputation management and executive communications.
Qualifications:
+ Minimum of seven years of direct experience in internal and external corporate communications with at least three years’ supporting C-level executives. Experience in property casualty insurance is strongly preferred.
+ Deep skill set and proven track record of developing and executing communications strategies aimed at multistakeholder audiences for global, publicly traded corporations. Exceptionally talented writer with experience directly supporting the communications needs of C-suite executives.
+ A grasp of complex issues that can potentially face a Fortune 500 company, including experience working with financial matters, legal issues and regulatory issues, as well as human resources matters.
+ A highly effective communicator with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate ideas, concepts and proposals through all mediums including PowerPoint.
+ Ability to influence multiple stakeholders within the organization; strong team leader with experience growing and developing talent.
+ Able to use change management principles to influence employee culture and foster engagement, innovation and growth.
+ Critical and Strategic Thinking - An effective planner who is able to think through all aspects of a situation and create plans that identify opportunities, mitigates risks and help drive the business; an effective strategic thinker who can clearly communicate complex issues to a variety of audiences.
+ Relationship Building - Able to build effective working relationships with people at all levels, internally and externally; solicits ideas and opinions to help form specific decisions or plans; keeps people informed and up to date about the group process and shares all relevant or useful information.
+ Outcome Focused - Experience with outcome-oriented planning and implementation; respects project schedules and works as part of a team to make things happen.
+ Manages Ambiguity - Ability to work within a constantly changing environment.
+ Knowledge of a variety of mediums including social media, podcasts, and other forums.
+ Proficient in MS office with particular expertise in developing and delivering a compelling story using PowerPoint.
+ Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree a plus.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$127,040 - $190,560
