Purpose
Ensures attainment of Trinity Health strategic goals by driving effective, sustainable performance of all Health Ministries and operational System Services across the Health System. To ensure the long-term growth and viability of the System, oversees the responsive and proactive development of integrated platforms, services and strategies that improve health care operations in the attainment of mission / business strategy. Provides leadership and oversight to execute the organization’s strategy, and ensure that people, processes, systems, culture and resources are in place to meet the strategic aims of delivering better health, better care at lower costs for communities served and sustainability for the Ministry. Oversees System operations and serves as the chief functional and operational integrator for the Ministry. As the Trinity Health CEO's partner, the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer will be involved in all aspects of the Ministry to attain the benefit of his/her input, improve decision-making, ensure effective coordination and provide broad exposure to the organization. The Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer will carry out other duties as designated by the CEO.

Mission Leader
+ Stewards the Mission that inspires a culture of commitment to the mission, vision and values of Trinity Health.

+ Provides counsel, leadership, guidance and direction in the development of an organizational culture appropriate to ensure operational excellence and to support the Mission and Values of Trinity Health.
Strategist
+ Provides executive oversight for the realization of the TH philosophy, Vision and Mission. Leads the implementation of strategy and ensures achieving balanced scorecard goals that include (but not limited to) patient/member care quality, patient and colleague safety, care experience, community impact, health equity, colleague engagement, clinician engagement, portfolio growth, financial plans, operating plans, and budgets/forecasts for specifically related to TH RHMs, Continuing Care, and MHM.
+ Contributes to the development of and updates to the ministry’s strategic plan. Ensure the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan. Work closely with the CEO to continually evaluate progress and adjust the System Strategic Plan.
+ Cultivates and deploys RHM growth opportunities and positions the organization for anticipated threats. Frames strategy as a compelling and achievable story and communicates it broadly and effectively.
+ Leads or participates in the development and implementation of short-term and long-range goals, objectives, and operational plans consistent with the organization’s mission and values which will enable the System to successfully carry out its strategic plans. The incumbent will:
+ Lead the development of an annual operating plan.
+ Provide representation to, communication with and support to the Trinity Health Board of Directors and Health Ministry Boards.
+ Briefs the CEO on all operational matters prior to meetings with the Trinity Health Board and represents the organization's operational position to internal and external constituencies.
+ Leads or champions standardization/systemness and optimization of organizational capabilities including policy, process, and methodology.
+ Develops and revises the portfolio of services, locations and capabilities that evolve and transform as regulatory and payment models change, new enabling technologies emerge, healthcare delivery requirements change, and new capabilities become known.
+ Strengthens the physician delivery system and care excellence by building and encouraging constructive relationships, structures and partnerships with physicians and clinicians across the system. Guides to ensure physician integration. Ensures that the physician's and clinician’s perspective is adequately represented and considered in decision-making.
Results Leader
+ Drives organizational performance, growth, effectiveness and efficiency across the RHMS, Continuing Care, and MHMs to produce operations success.
+ Champions cultural change, innovation and performance improvement. Promotes, advances and supports a culture of urgency and accountability around the Strategic Plan within scope of influence to ensure that performance improvement is at the core of Trinity Health's culture and evidenced by RHM, Continuing Care, and MHM performance against goals.
+ Provides day to day P&L leadership for RHMs, Continuing Care, MHMs, and other areas of responsibility and oversight of all operations broadly across the organization.
+ Ensures system operational compliance with applicable state and federal regulations and accrediting agency requirements; providing appropriate support and resources to do so and initiates corrective action as necessary.
+ Ensures there is appropriate leadership for all integration activities post-mergers, acquisitions and/or divestitures for the System.
+ Creates a culture that is achievement-oriented and makes needed changes happen by gaining commitment from stakeholders and eliminating barriers. Leverages skill, learning, innovation and scale to maximize the capabilities of a national health system.
+ Ensures that governance, leadership structures and decision-making authority is clearly defined, and controls are established throughout the organization thereby eliminating organizational bottlenecks and improving timeliness and effectiveness.
+ Ensures systems are in place that enforce / reinforce to stakeholders shared responsibility for delivering the right results and are carried out throughout the organization including rewarding collaboration and mutual assistance in the senior team. Actively sponsors and coaches teams working on strategic initiatives and publicly recognizes outstanding team performance.
Talent Manager
+ Ensures the organization has a clear and consistent message to internal and external stakeholders, recruits and fosters talent and assures that there are systems in place to keep people throughout the organization well-informed and engaged.
+ Clearly articulates where the organization must be unified and where differences should be fostered to leverage capabilities and meet unique requirements of communities.
+ Articulates the organization’s strategy so that people at all levels see how their work contributes to the organization’s success and proactively changes systems and processes that reinforce inappropriate patterns of behavior in the organization.
+ Implements systems that strengthen competencies needed to deliver value to stakeholders. Is actively and personally involved in attracting, developing, and retaining key clinical, technical and business leaders, encourages the consideration and incorporation of diversity of views and thoughts and invests in resources that ensure colleagues can perform and develop in their current and future roles.

+ Sponsors the process of aligning what the organization offers colleagues with the expectations of next-generation talent and helps key internal and external stakeholders understand the long-term benefits of working for the organization.
+ Oversees development systems that build next-generation talent and sponsors targeted development assignments for high-potential leaders. Gives direct feedback to key leaders in the organization about their potential in the organization and finds or creates opportunities for key leaders to fulfill their career goals.
**Maintains a Working Knowledge** of applicable federal, state and local laws / regulations, follows Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior and safe work practices.
Functional Role Scope
The Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Trinity Health will oversee ministry operations for one of the largest not-for-profit, faith-based health care systems in the nation. It is a family of over 127,000 colleagues and 38,000 physicians and clinicians caring for diverse communities across 26 states. Nationally recognized for care and experience, the Trinity Health system includes 93 hospitals, 107 continuing care locations, the second largest PACE program in the country, 142 urgent care locations and many other health and well-being services. In fiscal year 2024, Trinity Health invested $1.3 billion in its communities in the form of charity care and other community benefit programs.
Participates as a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) – the group that is composed of the highest level of management of Trinity Health) – and assists the CEO in the overall governance of the System. The incumbent will:
+ Chair the RHM CEO Operations Sub-Section of the Ministry Leadership Council.
+ Chairs Monthly Operations Review meetings with each RHM.
+ Ensure the establishment of controls, processes, information and reviews related to organizational performance.
+ Create and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of System operations, keeping the CEO appropriately apprised, and identifying present and potential conditions, problems and opportunities.
+ Make recommendations to and secures approval from the System CEO and board, as needed.
+ Act in the absence of the CEO for designated matters.
+ Keep the CEO informed, in a timely manner, on the status of the day-to-day operations of Trinity Health toward achievement of its strategy and all material incidents that deviate from established goals, policies and objectives.
Required Minimum Qualifications
+ Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles of health care operational delivery and financing, usually obtained through completion of an advanced degree in health administration, business administration, or related field.
+ A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible executive operations-level experience in complex, multi-location, multi-state health care delivery systems.
+ Experience in building and leading a system that prioritizes and delivers operational excellence.
+ Experience in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures and successful integration of entities and physician relations preferred.
+ Experience driving significant growth in current and new markets.
+ A commitment to hands-on operational management and a track record of successful P&L operational management in a highly complex organization.
+ A personal presence characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring; with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of Trinity Health.
