    CIBC Bank USA's Commercial Real Estate Credit Risk Management department is responsible for managing the credit risk of the Commercial Real Estate lending activity of the organization.

     

    What You’ll Be Doing

     

    Reporting to the Senior Director, Commercial Real Estate Credit Risk in the US Region, the Commercial Real Estate Credit Officer is accountable for managing a material corporate credit portfolio and recommending new or revised credit-related polices applicable to the portfolio. The role is also required to liaise closely with CIBC business officers, corporate governance officers and other risk managers with regard to managing credit risk transactions and issues involving multi-jurisdictional parties.

     

    How You’ll Succeed

     

    In this role, you will leverage your expertise in Commercial Real Estate (CRE) to ensure sound credit decisions and risk management. Your success will be driven by your ability to:

     

    + **Evaluate Credit Worthiness** : Assess and advise on the credit worthiness of proposed Commercial Real Estate transactions, ensuring alignment with the Bank’s credit policies and risk objectives.

    + **Ensure Compliance** : Monitor and ensure that credit parameters for new loan opportunities adhere to established guidelines, standards, and risk objectives.

    + **Establish Credit Structures:** Develop and oversee appropriate credit structures for both new and existing credits, ensuring they are effectively monitored.

    + **Conduct Thorough Reviews:** Perform detailed reviews of credit packages, providing input to guarantee that all due diligence is complete and accurate.

    + **Adhere to Risk Rating Framework:** Ensure that all recommended risk ratings conform to the Bank’s risk rating framework, maintaining high standards of accuracy.

    + **Communicate Effectively:** Collaborate closely with the Senior Director to communicate credit expectations and the Bank’s risk appetite clearly.

    + **Make Informed Decisions:** Approve or decline credits within established limits, consulting with the Senior Director on recommendations for larger loan amounts.

    + **Highlight Key Risks:** Assess all CRE credits presented to the Chief Credit Officer, emphasizing key risks and mitigants.

    + **Identify Risks in Meetings:** Attend CRE Pre-screen meetings to identify key credit risks and ensure required due diligence is conducted.

    + **Mentor Team Members:** Provide mentorship to credit analysts and junior loan officers, fostering their professional development in CRE.

    + **Monitor Portfolio Quality:** Assist in monitoring portfolio asset quality and participate in quarterly portfolio management meetings, including Criticized Asset Management discussions.

    + **Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Help** monitor compliance with credit policy and regulatory requirements, ensuring the Bank's adherence to standards.

    + **Drive Efficiencies:** Collaborate with the Senior Director to create efficiencies within CRE Credit Risk processes.

    + **Stay Informed:** Participate in industry meetings and conferences to remain current on trends, credit approaches, and regulatory changes.

    + **Engage in Strategic Projects:** Contribute to strategic Credit Risk projects as assigned, supporting the overall objectives of the organization.

     

    Who you Are

     

    You are a dedicated professional with a strong background in Commercial Real Estate Credit Risk, equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in this role. Your qualifications include:

     

    + **Educational Background:** A Bachelor’s degree in business or finance is required; an advanced degree is considered an asset.

    + **Relevant Experience:** A minimum of 5+ years of experience in Commercial Real Estate Credit Risk or a related field within a US Commercial Bank.

    + **Interpersonal Skills:** Exceptional ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and management, fostering strong working relationships.

    + **Team Player:** Capable of working independently while also thriving in a collaborative team environment.

    + **Analytical Expertise:** Excellent technical and analytical skills, enabling you to assess complex credit situations and make informed decisions.

    + **Communication Proficiency:** Strong verbal and written communication skills, allowing you to convey information clearly and effectively.

    + **Organizational Skills:** Strong organizational and presentation skills, ensuring that you can manage multiple tasks and present findings professionally.

    + **Technical Proficiency:** Proficient in the MS Office Suite, with the ability to utilize various tools to enhance productivity and reporting.

    _At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of_ **_$165,000-$180,000_** _for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
