The Department of Pathology at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking a full-time open-rank faculty member to support our academic and clinical molecular pathology services. Qualified candidates will have the Ph.D., M.D., and/or D.O as their terminal degree(s), and have ABMGG board certification or board eligibility in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, or ABMGG board certification in both Clinical Cytogenetics and Clinical Molecular Genetics.
Primary clinical responsibilities will be in the UVA Clinical Genomics and Cytogenetics Laboratories. These laboratories serve UVAHealth, comprising four acute care hospitals, UVA’s NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, and over 100 primary and specialty care clinics. These labs perform a diverse range of molecular and cytogenetic tests on over 5,000 specimens annually for solid tumor, hematological malignancy, and constitutional genetic diseases.
The clinical responsibilities of this position include cytogenetic, genomic, and molecular test interpretation and reporting, quality management and accreditation, strategic planning, and the development and implementation of new clinical tests. Training of residents, fellows, and medical students is expected.
Key Responsibilities
• Interpret and report cytogenetic, genomic, and molecular test results, providing accurate and timely diagnoses to support clinical decision-making
• Contribute to the development, validation, and implementation of relevant new assays and technologies
• Collaborate with other pathologists, clinicians, and researchers to integrate cytogenetic, genomic, and molecular findings into patient management strategies
• Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and contribute laboratory insights to aid in personalized treatment planning
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring quality control and adherence to regulatory standards
• Stay current with advancements in molecular and genomic pathology and participate in continuing education and professional development activities
• Collaborate with all Divisions in Pathology to advance molecular diagnostics and research

Minimum Requirements:
