We seek applicants who are dedicated to servingThe University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Optometry’sstudent body as anAssociate Professor and Director of Student Enrollment in the School of Optometrybeginning in the 2025-2026 academic year.
The tenured faculty member will serve as the liaison between the UTRGV School of Optometry and the UTRGV Division of Strategic Enrollment and Students Affairs. They will be responsible for the administrative and programmatic oversight of student affairs within the School of Optometry. This position is responsible for developing the student handbook and student policies and procedures in alignment with the UTRGV Division of Strategic Enrollment and Students Affairs as well as professional accrediting agencies. They will work closely with the Division of Strategic Enrollment regarding recruitment, admissions, enrollment management, financial assistance advising, student services, student organizations, and special events. Serving as the local school liaison to the UTRGV centralized structure regarding students. They will be the point of contact at the school of optometry regarding student support and engagement with strong interactions with personnel in the UTRGV Division of Strategic Enrollment and Student Affairs. This individual will also be a key contact person for alumni and optometric practitioners, bridging communication with the Division of Institutional Advancement. They will serve a key role on the UTRGV School of Optometry leadership team.
This position will also include teaching duties within the academic program, to include basic and clinical science. This position will provide input and oversight into the curricular development within the School of Optometry and will work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Dean to construct a forward-thinking curriculum. They may also have periodic clinic duties in the Vision Center prior to matriculating the first student cohort.
The position will report directly to the Dean of the School of Optometry.
Minimum Qualifications
a) must currently hold the rank of Associate Professor with tenure at their current institution,
b) evidence of research and scholarly accomplishments in Optometry or a closely related field that satisfy the requirements for tenure at UTRGV ,
c) demonstrated success in securing funding, mentoring graduate students, and engaging in service.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
a) The applicant must possess an Optometric Degree (OD) and residency certification in a subspecialty of Optometry.
b) Licensed or eligible for optometry licensure in the state of Texas.
Preferred Qualifications
The applicant should have an advanced graduate degree (M.Ed., M.S. or Ph.D.) in addition to their optometric degree. The degree should be in a related educational field. Previous experience in student affairs or administration is preferred.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
•51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
