Sigma Design has collaborated with an Aerospace/Telecommunications company seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their facility in Kirkland, WA. This company is committed to bringing fast and affordable broadband internet to underserved populations across the world. This position is contract with an expected duration of 6 months. Primary Function:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for producing and maintaining high-quality 3D models and 2D drawings using Siemens NX. Your designs will directly contribute to the development of critical subsystems for satellite assemblies. In addition to core design work, this role will include occasional technical writing to support documentation needs such as assembly instructions, engineering change orders (ECOs), and test procedure write-ups. This is a hands-on engineering role in a fast-paced, high-reliability environment where accuracy, attention to detail, and collaboration are key.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
+ Design and document satellite and assembly fixturing using Siemens NX and apply aerospace drafting standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5, GD&T).
+ Generate and manage 2D manufacturing drawings, 3D models, and complete BOMs (Bills of Materials).
+ Collaborate with other engineers to confirm accuracy, update, and release CAD within Teamcenter.
+ Support design reviews, engineering investigations, and design iterations throughout the product lifecycle.
+ Perform drawing checks and resolve issues in collaboration with quality and manufacturing teams.
+ Author or edit technical documentation, such as assembly procedures, tooling instructions, and test plans.
+ Maintain compliance with aerospace documentation and configuration control standards.
+ Contribute to continuous process improvement and design standardization efforts.
+ Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design and drafting, ideally in the aerospace or defense sector.
+ Strong proficiency with Siemens NX for modeling and drafting (required).
+ Experience with Teamcenter (preferred).
+ Solid understanding of GD&T, mechanical tolerances, and aerospace design principles.
+ Ability to interpret and produce high-quality technical drawings and documentation.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including technical writing for engineering documentation.
+ Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
+ Familiarity with satellite structures, deployable mechanisms, or high-reliability components is a plus.
+ ITAR - Permanent resident of the United States (“U.S. person” as defined by ITAR)
+ Background and drug screen - pass a post-offer background verification and drug screen.
Work Environment
Standard office environment with normal amounts of office related conditions. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers.
