Job Title: SCADA Engineer
Job Description
Seeking a SCADA Engineer who specializes in the design and construction of power systems for renewable energy and battery storage projects.
Responsibilities
+ Prepare and maintain diagrams, including panel elevations, schematics, wiring diagrams, data flow diagrams, bills of materials, logical network diagrams, physical connection diagrams, and patch panel drawings.
+ Prepare and maintain points lists for data flows to and from the substation, power plant controllers (PPCs), utilities, owners, and other parties.
+ Program and commission SEL Real-Time Automation Controllers (RTACs) for use as substation RTUs and power plant controllers, using Tag Processor mappings and custom IEC code.
+ Build RTAC HMIs using SEL Diagram Builder software.
+ Edit IED communication settings using SEL AcSELerator QuickSet, GE EnerVista, and other software.
+ Manage the procurement and logistics of SCADA equipment and materials.
+ Configure routers, firewalls, and switches from manufacturers such as SEL, Cisco, Palo Alto, Hirschmann, and Moxa.
+ Maintain documentation of device configurations and as-built drawings.
+ Install or supervise the installation of communication cabling and devices in the control house and panels (25% travel).
+ Commission SCADA devices in the field, including devices in control houses, main power transformers, and field network enclosures.
+ Perform points checks with substation testers, power plant controllers, field equipment, utilities, and other parties.
+ Create bids and proposals for power plant controller projects.
+ Assist with the construction and scripting of HMIs and historians using Inductive Automation’s Ignition software.
+ Manage and take ownership of individual SCADA projects, working with other internal engineers and drafters, as well as outside parties such as clients, owners, and utilities.
+ Manage project schedules and tasks using ClickUp.
Essential Skills
+ 3-10 years of recent experience in SCADA engineering in a power or related field.
+ Experience with PLC programming and configuring RTUs.
+ Proficiency in working with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) relays.
+ Hands-on experience with Real-Time Automation Controllers (RTACs).
+ Familiarity with power systems electronic equipment and protocols.
+ Experience with solar power plants and battery storage systems.
+ Understanding of communication protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, and IEC.
+ Expertise in SCADA systems design, implementation, and maintenance.
+ Knowledge of network configuration and cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.
+ Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Python experience is a plus.
+ Comfortable with the use of hardware, hand tools, and small power tools for the installation and mounting of wiring, devices, and cabling.
+ Field engineering experience is a plus.
+ Strong writing skills with detailed attention to writing mechanics.
+ Strong oral communication skills.
+ A spirit of curiosity, a passion for troubleshooting, and a drive to learn independently.
+ Persistence in problem-solving.
Work Environment
This position is based in Minnesota and involves 25% travel for hands-on work across the United States. It offers the opportunity to learn about various disciplines, including circuit design, equipment panel design, software engineering, network administration, automation, marketing, and project management. In-office work is preferred, but hybrid and remote arrangements may be considered. Remote candidates must be drop-in ready and highly qualified. The work environment is collaborative and involves working closely with a lead engineer and reporting to the manager of SCADA engineering.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $65.00/hr.
