THE POSITION
Are you ready to step up and lead the way in driving PennDOT forward? We are looking for a talented Senior Highway Designer in the Project Development Section to assist the District Offices and other Department Organizations to review project schedules and ensure construction projects are completed on time. Bring your expertise and ambition to PennDOT and unleash your potential!
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Senior Highway Designer, you will work within the Project Schedules, Specifications and Constructability Section to guide and facilitate project management duties for construction designs and construction schedules. This includes identifying and assisting the district with potential issues during the design or construction phases of project delivery. Communication is vital as you collaborate with key stakeholders, including engineers, construction representatives and other key staff to conduct reviews to ensure adequacy of presentation, accuracy of data, and to identify any areas of potential concern related to the Department’s letting goal. You will have the opportunity to act as consultant to district design staff in the development of Critical Path Method pre-bid project schedules, and as a statewide constructability and maintainability expert during constructability and maintainability reviews.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
+ Alternate work schedule not available with this position.
+ Position can be headquartered in Harrisburg or at a district office closest to candidate's location if space is available.
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to a district office closest to candidate's location.
+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ One year as a Highway Designer (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
+ Four years of professional experience in highway design work including six months of CADD operation and an Associate's Degree in civil engineering, drafting, or design technology; or
+ Two years of professional experience in highway design work including six months of CADD operation and a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, or a closely related field;or
+ Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
