    Position Summary:

    New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), one of the nation’s premier public polytechnic universities, invites applications from qualified, dynamic, and motivated professionals for the position of Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Events.

     

    Reporting to the Director of Development and Alumni Events, the Assistant Director will play a key role in supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of strategic events designed to enhance constituent engagement and advance the university’s philanthropic and fundraising objectives.

    Essential Functions:

    -Lead and manage a personal portfolio of alumni engagement, cultivation, and stewardship events from conception through execution, ensuring strategic alignment with departmental goals.

     

    -Support the planning and execution of 40–50 alumni events annually, varying in size and complexity, both on and off campus, including high-profile presidential events.

     

    -Assist in aligning advancement events with constituent engagement and fundraising objectives, ensuring clarity of purpose, appropriate outcomes, and the integration of pre-event and post-event communications, and marketing materials.

     

    -Collaborate with campus partners to manage all aspects of event production, including timelines, checklists, venue selection, room layouts, catering, décor, rentals, audiovisual requirements, parking, transportation, and event giveaways.

     

    -Develop staffing plans and coordinate volunteer support for events; manage travel and lodging logistics for special guests, honorees, and performers as needed.

     

    -Provide on-site event management, including evening and weekend responsibilities, to ensure successful execution.

     

    -Work under the direction of the Director of Development and Alumni Events to develop event communications and materials—both print and digital—such as invitations, programs, and follow-up correspondence, in collaboration with internal teams and external vendors.

     

    -Maintain accurate and up-to-date entries for all events in the Development & Alumni Relations annual master calendar.

     

    -Create and manage comprehensive event records in The Raiser’s Edge NXT database.

     

    -Onboard new NJIT vendors through the legal and procurement departments.

    Additional Functions:

    -Perform other duties as assigned.

    Prerequisite Qualifications:

    -Bachelor’s degree required.

     

    -Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in planning and managing special events, preferably within a higher education environment.

     

    -Demonstrated commitment to collegiality and collaborative decision-making.

     

    -Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with a strong ability to build and maintain relationships.

     

    -Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team; adaptable to shifting priorities, timelines, and demands through strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

     

    -Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.

     

    -Familiarity with The Raiser’s Edge NXT database is preferred.

     

    -Must be willing and able to travel as needed, and work evenings and weekends in support of event programming.

     

    -At the university’s discretion, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the stated requirements, provided the candidate can demonstrate preparedness for success in the role.

    Salary:

    In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is $61,880.00-$105,778.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
