    This is a fulltime maintenance opportunity working 40 hours a week. There is no per diem and no relocation funding.

     

    Valve Technician

     

    Provide technical support and expertise for pressure relief valves, other pressure relieving equipment, and process control systems. Maintain compliance with National Board “VR” rules and regulations.

     

    Make frequent contact with a variety of outside vendors and in-plant personnel and must be able to communicate well both orally and in writing. Often acts in an advisory capacity to engineers and supervisors in the maintenance and operating departments. May be asked to witness off-plant equipment testing/repair or evaluate a vendor’s shop or expertise.

     

    Have a major impact on decisions affecting plant reliability and downtime through recommendations concerning process control, systems maintenance, and operation.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Complete project/technical request/MOC assignments. Recommend corrective action, obtain necessary approvals when changes are made during assignments, issue written reports and follow up to ensure proper completion. Perform analytical calculations dealing with valve sizing, orifice sizing and other information dealing with design, pressure/volume relationships, etc., develop and issue equipment specifications as required.

    + Assume the quality control function in all assignments. Check and correct all variables that would delay the job, affect the equipment or plant's reliability/efficiency, carefully document all significant data, follow up and correct any item requiring modification or improvement, issue timely documenting reports after completion of assignment.

    + Issue the monthly PSV status report to Production, this includes a 3-month forecast of PSV’s coming due for inspection so they can be scheduled accordingly.

    + Act as a catalyst for all assignments to expedite decisions, eliminate misunderstandings, ensure all lines of communication are maintained, inform, and obtain approvals when necessary. Perform in a supervisory capacity when directed to do so by the Maintenance Engineering Manager.

    + Develop major overhaul scopes for plant equipment based on anticipated repairs, known problems, machinery performance and available downtime. Develop repair procedures to ensure the most efficient methods are used. This includes establishing and cataloging necessary spare parts in Stores needed for repairs.

    + Develop and provide necessary technical input for the establishment of effective preventive maintenance programs and/or technical procedures. Provide recommendations to ensure that the plant takes full advantage of or recognizes the latest equipment developments, diagnostic methods, and maintenance techniques.

    + Maintains and upgrades personal competency in his/her field of expertise, staying current with the latest advances in technology. Maintains a working expertise with all the departmental test equipment.

    + Assists with or provides the following:

    + Formal Root Cause Failure Analysis

    + Training and technical support for ODR/ TPM efforts.

    + Joint maintenance/operations walkthroughs for plant areas or equipment.

    + Maintains safety awareness, insists on compliance with safety rules, and promotes/encourages the company Safety processes. Ensuring that safety is a primary consideration for any activity recommended or undertaken.

    + Provide technical support to the maintenance department on a day-to-day or emergency basis. Train plant personnel when practical and when deficiencies are noted. This accountability may require the off plant witnessing of equipment testing/repair or vendor shop/expertise evaluation and the writing of purchase requisitions.

    + Maintains and provides monthly reports of the following:

    + An accurate continuity time log for PSV technicians.

    + Updates the Maintenance Engineering project activity database.

    + Significant activities including training, technical support, and project work

    + Must be able to perform work wearing personnel protective equipment. Including but not limited to the following: rain gear, chemical protective clothing, supplied air and air purifying respirators, safety harness, sand blast hoods, fire resistant coveralls, hard hat, ear plugs and safety glasses.

    + While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body, able to reach overhead, able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, squatting; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; work at heights; balance for extended periods of time.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications Required for this Position:

    **Education** : no minimum education requirements.

    **Experience:** 3-5 years of experience in an industrial setting required.

     

    Must pass drug screen and background check, as condition of employment.
