    A Typical Day

     

    We're looking for a highly experienced and motivated AI/ML Team Lead to spearhead the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge AI/ML solutions within our AI Accelerator Team. You'll lead a team of engineers responsible for leveraging the latest AI technologies and ML models to deploy best-in-class tools for Pennymac’s employees and customers.

     

    This role requires a deep understanding of AI agentic programming, machine learning algorithms, natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, AWS and GCP cloud technologies, and MLOps practices. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential to effectively guide and mentor your team.

    Responsibilities

    + Lead and mentor a team of AI/ML engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.

    + Effectively delegate tasks, provide technical guidance, and support team members' professional development.

    + Build and maintain a high-performing team with strong engineering principles and best practices.

    + Lead the design and implementation of AI/ML solutions on AWS Bedrock and Google Vertex AI, including model selection, training, optimization, and deployment.

    + Ensure alignment of technical decisions with overall architecture standards and strategies.

    + Demonstrate deep understanding and proficiency in utilizing AWS Bedrock services (e.g., Titan FMs, foundation models) and Google Vertex AI services (e.g., Vertex AI Workbench, pre-trained APIs, custom training, MLOps tools) for various product initiatives.

    + Develop and optimize high-performance machine learning models using Python and relevant libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, spaCy) for predictive analytics and NLP.

    + Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues in models and infrastructure.

    + Implement and manage MLOps practices to ensure efficient model development, deployment, monitoring, and retraining within the IDP pipeline.

    + Work with the DevOps team to ensure continuous delivery of the product using agile methodology.

    + Utilize AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, SageMaker) and GCP services (e.g., Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Vertex AI) to build and manage scalable and cost-effective cloud infrastructure for AI/ML workloads.

    + Design and implement robust data pipelines for efficient data ingestion, preprocessing, and feature engineering.

    + Provide technical guidance to peers on best practices, recommend appropriate technologies, and provide coverage on the latest technology trends.

    + Lead and participate in code reviews.

    + Continuously evaluate and optimize model performance, identifying and addressing bottlenecks to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the models or AI tools in production.

    + Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI/ML, NLP, computer vision, and cloud technologies.

    + Explore and evaluate new techniques and tools to enhance our AI solutions.

    + Work effectively with cross-functional teams (e.g., product management, data science, software engineering) to deliver impactful IDP solutions that meet business requirements.

    + Communicate and collaborate with product managers and technology teams to design and build secure, large-scale distributed event-based systems.

    + Build and maintain effective relationships with product managers, architects, technical leads, and business stakeholders.

     

    What You’ll Bring

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field, or relevant work experience.

    + 10+ years of experience in developing and architecting enterprise-class, distributed software solutions.

    + 5+ years of AWS experience.

    + 2+ years of GCP experience, with a focus on Google Vertex AI.

    + 5+ years of hands-on experience in designing, developing, and deploying AI/ML solutions, with a focus on NLP and/or computer vision.

    + 2+ years of experience working with AWS cloud services, including experience with AWS Bedrock.

    + Experience in building and deploying IDP solutions or similar document processing systems.

    + Proven track record of leading and mentoring technical teams.

    + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

    + Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    + Passion for innovation and continuous learning.

    + Experience with Microservices built using AWS Native Serverless stack (API Gateway, Kinesis, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, Step Functions, Lambda, AppSync, DynamoDB, and S3).

    + Experience with AWS Bedrock

    + Experience with Google Vertex AI and other relevant GCP services.

    + Experience building out modern CI/CD pipelines using AWS CDK and GitLab CI.

    + Experience developing and reviewing code written in modern programming languages.

    + Hands-on experience in using Data Structures and algorithms, programming languages like Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, etc.

    + Ability to troubleshoot, research, and work through complex problems.

    + Ability to communicate technical issues clearly and to present data concisely.

    + Must be attentive to detail, flexible, and able to work concurrently on multiple initiatives.

    Preferred Skills

    + + FinTech or Mortgage Domain knowledge.

    + Experience in Agile/SCRUM using Jira.

    + Experience with feature flagging and service/API semantic versioning.

    Compensation: Individual salary may vary based on multiple factors including specific role, geographic location / market data, and skills and experience as defined below:

    + Lower in range - Building skills and experience in the role

    + Mid-range - Experience and skills align with proficiency in the role

    + Higher in range - Experience and skills add value above typical requirements of the role

     

    Some roles may be eligible for performance-based compensation and/or stock-based incentives awarded to employees based on company and individual performance.

     

    Salary

     

    $140,000 - $175,000
